Hit 3 wood great but pull the driver?

I have recently got NSA and found that hitting under the stick has worked wonders for me. I was previously coming over the top and pulling pretty much everything, but having done a lot of work hitting under a club threaded through a range basket has really helped. The only fly in the ointment is the driver, I cannot stop hitting pulls with it. My 3 wood is going really well off the tee and deck, which is just as well as the driver is killing me.

I had one session last week where hitting under my club straightened things out nicely with the driver, but it has been crap since. I finish facing the way I am hitting it with the driver, and cannot get it straightened out. The best I can do is hit a big slice to avoid going left, which isn't much help.

I will see if I can get some video this weekend, but is there anything I can check/do? Should I just get NHA ?

You may want to check out a driver fitting with more loft. It's possible your driver doesn't have enough loft for you. Also are your shafts the same?

Amateur hour

Maybe the ball is too far forward. If it is, and you're facing the ball, your shoulders and hips could be open.

That doesn't necessarily make you pull. A lack of axis tilt would, though, and an open setup might make axis tilt more difficult.

Try to make your setup nice and square. I even like to pull my right foot back a little, keeps my hips from getting open. Then, focus on adding axis tilt on the downswing. Tailbone forward, left shoulder up and back (think Manzella 1:1 rule).

Oh, make sure your stance isn't too narrow. I hit loads of pull-cuts when I'm not standing wide enough.

1st things first, is the driver TOO CLOSED? Most off the shelf drivers are way too closed with anywhere between 2-4*. They do this to help slicers, however if you needed it and aren't a slicer anymore you will pull and hook it.

Start theere, then move on to other logical things like ball position. No big changes until you sort out the little ones first

Its amazing how many people dont realize this. What will 4* closed face with a slightly inside out path lead to?

Thanks for the suggestions so far, I am going to the range again today so will try moving the ball back a little. I have had the same driver (the original HiBore 9.5* with stock stiff shaft) for a few years and have hit it well until recently, although it does look very closed when I set up. I will try my old 983K as that looks far more square.

My finish is definately different with the driver. If my target is at 12 o'clock, I finish looking at 10 o'clock (right handed golfer), and that is where my ball goes (usually pretty straight). My right achiles tendon is sore as well, which doesn't happen if I am just hitting irons and wedges. I won't be able to get video today, but will get some over the weekend.

The last thing I am going to do is work on tempo. I have got a much better tempo with my irons, but it doesn't feel as though it has progressed through into the driver swing.

YIKES!!!!

Whoa Nellie!

This should/could be a topic at the GTE Seminar.

I hit my 3-wood (and maybe other clubs) pretty darn straight, but my driver goes left.

Hmmm....

Folks, I am disappointed in MYSELF!

I thought I was doing a better job of informing you guys.

The DRIVER should be hit on the way up. The IRONS, HYBRIDS, and FAIRWAYS WOODS on the WAY DOWN.

The DOWN ATTACK skews the TRUE PATH to the right of the plane line, and the UP ATTACK skews it to the left.

That'll do it all be itself.

Also, the the DRIVER can be hit with a BELOW PLANE motion, causing a hook.

Got it everyone?

Duhh... it's a journey. And honestly, if you want to beat yourself up like that, then go ahead. Anyway, thanks for the heads up. :D
