Hitting the inside part of the ball

Ok, when we take a full swing we know that we want to hit the inside part of the ball with an open clubface. We do this by tilting during the transition and getting the right shoulder to move down plane, and then hitting out to the right field.

Now I'm having problems seeing how we hit the inside part of the ball for a pitch or chip shot where the club does not move beyond waist height, seeing that we do not have the option to tilt and get the right shoulder moving down plane.

Do we have to set up differently with a pitch/chip shot to ensure that we hit the inside part of the ball?

Look at Brian's pitch. He reaches an aiming point that puts his hands at or past his LEFT thigh. Get your hands there and your shoulders and hips will move with the pivot. The club will have to hit the inside of the ball. It was NO choice.

You do not want to artificially lower the right shoulder, it should move on plane as the right arm pushes and right bent wrist pushes the left arm. If it didn't you would swing above the ball.

Brian,

On the tape I have of Ben's, he says often to one student while hitting those beautiful chip and punches, "hit up with the club and down with the hips."

I know he means "up" after reaching the low point...hitting down on the ball- no dispute there. But down with hips? Can you explain?

It works but have been worried about the hip action.

I think Ben means USING the ground to help raise the left shoulder/lower the right shoulder which is axis tilt and its cousin, the left shoulder area going UP AND BACK through impact CAUSING THE CLUB to go Down and OUT.
