Did Hogan have a

10-7- E Reverse Shift . ( As the name implies it is the exact reverse of the single shift. That is, the Shift is from a turned shoulder plane angle backstroke to an elbow plane downstroke)

or

10-7-G The Reverse Loop ( this is similar to the reverse shift except that the shift is made from a squared shoulderplane angle but done with a looping motion of the clubhead. Handled with skill this shift can be very effective.)

My hunch is Reverse Loop . Thanks.

I always wondered about his weight distribution at the end of his backstroke. Always looked like most if not all his weight was on his left leg. Maybe an optical illusion caused by the massive right hip rotation. Same with Nicklaus.

Hogan always threw a curveball at the general golfing public when he said he started his downswing by turning the hips; he did because he ended his backswing with a weight shift to the left. Still frames do no justice to a wonderful swing at that point into it.

I have noticed that some modern golfers are staying on their right leg much longer into the downswing, shifting the weight to the lead leg later in the swing. In the last two years Els has kept the weight on the INSIDE of his right leg much longer then before.

Today at the range, I had more success at keeping my body and base of my spine behind the ball by keeping more weight on my right leg before and at impact. I could never understand the common instruction of shifting weight onto the left side and keeping the body and head behind the ball. I alwasy slid my body over to the left when I did any kind of lower body movement or weight shift on the downstroke.
