I truly don't know the answer to this question but i have a "hunch." If any of you do, please list:

How many hall of fame golfers have had laid off top of the backswing positions, meaning club pointing left of target line and/or pointing to the OUTSIDE of the plane line.

How many hall of fame golfers have had cross the line top of the backswing positions? Obvious my meaning is the opposite listed above.

-----------

Cleaned up a few posts that were un-needed.

So we have so far:

Laid off:
Tiger (currently)
Raymond Floyd
Hale Irwin
Mark James

Cross the line:
Tiger (old)
Larry Nelson
Nicklaus
Hagan

I assume you mean when they are parallel to the ground at the top of the swing. Because anyone short of that would be left and anyone past that would be right.

Half asleep right now but Larry Nelson (across he line) comes to mind. Mark James is the only laid off that I can think of...Is he in the European golf hall of fame?

Even if they are short of parallel the butt end of the club should still be pointing at the plane line and thus they'd be "on plane." If it points outside the plaine line they'd be considered laid off and if inside they'd be considered cross the line.

Laid off -
Raymond Floyd
Hale Irwin

Accross the top
Nicklaus sometimes
Walter Hagan
Davis Love III - will be HOF eventually

Yes Jim, I know that. but most people think anything left is laid off (someone who doesn't get to parallel) and not on plane, like the Trevino sequence.

Jim, would laid off at ANY point in the swing count? I ask because it at least seems like Vijay lays it off pretty good in the downswing.

Also, I believe early Ernie Els (like when he won his US Open at Oakmont) was laid off at the top a touch.

Yup, VJ definately lays it off a lot.

Larry Nelson was way, way across the line at the top and I think he won 3 or 4 majors. Daly, Mickelson, Goosen.

I can't fully remember but I think Raymond Floyd and Scott Hoch are laid off.

Hi all, first post here, great forum BTW. I always had the impression that the Tiger swing from <1997 was slightly across the line, albeit still in a powerful position. Someone please correct me if i am wrong. Thanks
