How Did Y'all Do This Year?

Here we are winding down 2010.

I started this year still trying the pure swinging pattern. Just could not get consistent with it. Committed to a pivot pattern in late spring and…thanks to this website, I managed to have the best year of my golfing life which has now spanned over 30 years. Had never broke 80, did so 4 times this year with a low of 76. Snuck my handicap into single digits (9.9 officially but hey, it counts!). I can’t really say I’ve adopted all the principles of any one of Brian’s patterns but rather grabbing nuggets here and there from all the posts and videos and trying to find what works for me.

A sincere thanks to Brian and his team for all the hard work they do, all the information they share, most of it for free, and to many posters here who are far more knowledgeable than I’ll ever be for sharing your thoughts. Well done!

So how did you do this year?

Ditto. I broke 80 for the first time this year as well; only once, but it was a true 78, playing it where it laid, and not giving myself any putts over a foot. Most of my full swing improvement came about by working on one or the other of the two patterns, Soft Draw and Never Hook Again. Thanks to the BManz team!

Bit of a disappointing year for me golf wise.

I tried to take my game to the next level by working mostly on my golf swing. It started out quite well, but the weather was so bad that it was tough to get a lot of time on the course. I did have about 10 or so really nice rounds. Low for the year was a 65 at Olde Atlanta Club. Shot a 67 at North Shore GC and hit 17 greens.

I wound up moving to Florida, which was a great move for me. I got less time to play and practice now, so I reserve my practice time mostly around my golf swing. About June my swing started to fall apart. September I changed instructors. From the Face On view my swing is pretty sound and I think it will get where I want it to be by the end of the month (if the weather holds up and I can get in practice time). The DTL view needs a lot work.

So my progress as far as the swing and ballstriking stalled a bit. But I think the progress is now starting to come along again and mostly I learned a lot. I have an entirely better sense of what I need to do with my swing and I think I've got a time frame as to how long it should take. I plan on dropping about 30 pounds this year and walking some more.

Equipment wise I have a much better sense of what I want as well. I can practically fit myself if I have a Trackman handy. I plan on getting an Edel putter pretty soon and probably a lie loft machine to tweak my irons.

Overall, I'm thinking that maybe this stall in progress was needed for me to figure things out better.

Didn't get to play nearly as much as I want. Ironically, even though I've never had a year where I've played so little golf, I had my best ever round and learned a ton about what works for me particularly, and I have something concrete to build on once my "situations" get right and I can play as frequently as I want. I also learned that I'm probably giving up 20-30 yards at least being so far behind in driver tech, which is encouraging to know.

I think that I'm on my way to reaching some of my goals, and being able to set new ones, so despite the inactivity this year, it's been a good one, and it's setting me up for some big improvements over the next few years.

I just posted this exact topic on another board. 2010 for me will be remembered for taking a lesson with Brian which I should have taken in the spring but took in the fall. My understanding of golf has grown by leaps and bounds this year. I am looking forward to taking another lesson either from Brian or one of the instructors closer to me who are part of his group.

My golf has been better this year than any other year I can remember. It has me looking forward to 2011.

Took a lesson from Brian early in the year and was fairly disappointed at how much my swing had changed from the previous year's trip to see him. I basically created a huge fault in my swing by trying to swing left and with no video or instruction to monitor my progression on a regular basis it has been hell in trying to fix my swing this year. Shot some low 80s scores but I had been able to do this when I swung 8 degrees inside out and played a huge hook. Now I'm so steep into the ball I want to puke but with that being said I have potentially solved my problem. The wifes digital camera blew up conveniently this month so I had to buy her a new one. She is now the proud owner of a casio ex fh25 that I will be hijacking from time to time to keep my swing more in line so I don't go from one end of the spectrum to the other end when I'm trying to make swing changes. Hopefully this will allow me to take that next step and drop to single digits.

Overall pretty good, shot in a 60s half dozens times, club tournaments (non handi) pretty good, couple big tournaments in my area played poorly. What helped? Mapped the greens at home course with a little research how to, bought the T.S. from Martin C this fall.......should have bought earlier.
Goals for next year learn dplane, trackman sessions, check out aimpoint. get 100 yds and in figured out......

Dropped my handicap from 11.7 to 7.4 playing 65 rounds and practicing using this site as my primary source of information - especially Brian's videos. I hope to take a lesson from him in 2011

I had the best year of my golfing life. My handicap during my senior year of high school was a 6. I was playing 6 times a week. I averaged one birdie a round and had a whale of a short game. I am now back to a 6. I have played <25 rounds this year. My short game is poor due to lack of practice, but I averaged 3 birdies per round this year. I shot my first round of even par (had a previous 1 under in Scotland), have shot 1 over three times and I am way more comfortable when attempting to break a scoring barrier. I no longer freak out when I am 1 over after 14. What a difference this site has made on what I know about the game I love.

Christmas should bring a Casio. Casio should give more accurate feedback than the window I'm currently using to look at my swing. 2011 will have a lesson with the Manz somewhere in it. I am excited for the warm weather to come along as I truly believe I will shoot a round in the 60's next year.

2010 was basically a throw away year for me. It was the first season back since spinal fusion with very few highlights and little cohesion. With some help, managed to turned it around in the past 2 months - a few rounds in the mid 60's and a 2nd.

I'm looking forward to a lot of fun in 2011. Back is great, game is trending, and Shields says he's coming down to the sticks.:)

i played golf twice, literally.

Shot either 69 or 70 and blogged about it and then shot like 88 for the other time on a ridiculously hard course and didn't realize until like hole 14 i was completely laid off and getting under the sweetspot the whole time.

golf sucks lol

mgranato, I know how you feel. 09 was like that for me. I had heart surgery and was not allowed to swing a club until Mid September. So I used the fall and winter to begin doing research online to give myself some direction to begin 2010. I discovered a ton of good stuff from TGM (had never heard of it before) to blogs like richie3jack that eventually led me here. It took most of the season but with some work and both getting NSA and using the information gathered over the long New England winter. I got my index down to a 7.8 by the fall. I am hoping now that I have the beginnings of an understanding of what I need to do that next season I will get even better and more consistant.

Yeah you have to protect me. I dont want to turn into Ned Beatty down there.

Country Club of Georgia....hmmm, hmmm? Tuesday prior to Da Mastas?

It's been a good year...especially since I found this site and bought Brian's video's earlier this year. I've been playing for 6 years now (started at age 40...just a little late). Shot my lowest score of 75, hit a hole in one from 190 yards and dropped index down to single digits at 9.0. Learning D-plane and the NHA video have helped me make the biggest improvements. Again, this all started when I found this site early this year...Thanks Brian and to everyone who keep the discussions going forward on this site!

BUT - THE DOWSIDE is that I no longer go surfing 3 days a week and I didn't go on a surf trip for the first time in 10 years....what is it with this golf???? lol.

I know the Golf Club of Georgia - it's okay if you like pristine everything. They also host the Georgia Cup (US Am champ v. British Am champ).

There's actually a nice little Pittsburg sports bar not far from the course, just click the photo below for the link (Tuesday is banjo night)...

Didn't score well or play real often but I would call it a great year nonetheless. (I mean that)

After the Anti-Summit I mentioned that I would need time to incubate and apply it to my own game to see how valuable it was.
In the last round I played I had a stretch of 8 birdies in 12 holes on a legit course..mostly because of giving up the Maximum Trigger Delay Fool's Gold..finished just 3 under though.
And, as I mentioned in an earlier post, flatter clubs and tried to draw everything.
SO, buy the Anti-Summit if you didn't attend. It turns out it was priceless.
