How do I become a GM instructor?

I've been a high school coach for over 7 years now. I love to teach others how to play golf and love watching them improve with my help. I also like to think that I'm pretty good at it.

I'm fairly new to The Golfing Machine but what little I have learned from the yellow book and from Brian's videos and web site has had a huge impact on my game. I've also used a little of that information to help a couple of my players on this years team. You should have seen the look on their faces when they started to feel what pressure point number 3 was.

So how do I make the leap to becoming a GM certified instructor? How long will the process take and how much will it cost? I'm sure their is a simple answer but I can't seem to find it.

Thanks for the help.

I'm in the same situation as coach walls, I've got a pretty successful program, but I would like to become a better teacher as well

Brian, could I become a GSEB without losing amateur status? I still enjoy playing quite a bit and would hate to give that up. I just want to help the kids on my golf team and add credibility to my program. Thanks

I would love to. How about a summer internship :)

Thanks, Lou.

Coach,

It is a very worthwhile program. But I would recommend ALSO spending a little time with me.

I believe you only lose your amateur status from accepting money for teaching, playing, etc. Learning about the game and obtaining certifications are irrelevant.

I agree with Jeffy that merely taking a class does not confer porfessional status. In fact, The Golfing Machine Website lists AI's with Amateur status. The following is from Decision 2/1-7 on the Rules of Amateur Status:

"Enrollment in a college program (e.g., Professional Golf Management Programs) designed to or having the purpose of preparing students to become golf professionals does not, by itself, breach Rule 2-1. However, a student must ensure that he does not breach any other Rule. (Revised – Formerly 2-1/4) "
