How do you get your spin rate down?

Now, I don't know exactly how accurate they are, but I was at the PGA superstore and noticed I have a remarkably high spin rate with the driver. Here was the numbers it was giving me.

Swing Speed 95-106 range
Launch angle- 14-16 degrees
Carry- 240-250
spin rate 3600 on the low end to 5200 on the high end.

This is an area where my knowledge is pretty limited, but I thought ideally you would want a high launch, which I have, with low spin in order to maximize carry. So how do you get the spin rate down?

Thanks

The swing speed reading seems odd to me, it seems like a large jump 11 miles an hour difference, maybe you were stiff when you started? If thats the case then my guess is angle of attack, maybe you are a little steep coming down?

Be real careful with this -those monitors are many times way off! Case in point - I went to a Golf Galaxy, and it was showing my spin rate at 4400:eek: The next day I went to a demo day and hit the same driver, a Ping G10 stock regular shaft. They actually had the doppler there, and it was at a driving range, so you could see the actual flight. My spin rate was around 2200 ( I think ) The Ping guy said I had the right club and said he would not recommend changing it.:) I've seen this happen a lot with some of those monitors.

It can be many things - are you side spinning? slice or hook?
A heavier tour issue head, heavier shaft or tour issue shaft can easily bring your spin down 25-30%. My son recently tested a Callaway fitting cart with Trackman. The real Tour equipment resulted in significant better numbers.

Swing speed was picking up as I got warmed up, plus I was wearing sandals.

Ball monitor was showing that drives were starting down the left side of the fairway with a very slight fade. While I didn't like the spin rates, the ball was pretty much down the middle.

I play a 10.5 degree driver with a regular shaft. Callaway Hyper X.

So you guys, think I should play something with a little less loft.

I wouldn't worry as much about the loft as that shaft. I suspect it is a little light and the kickpoint could be a little low for 100+mph swing speed. I'd guess that the shaft is designed for slower swing speeds (85-95mph?).

VJSINGER mentioned angle of attack. That is huge as backspin rate is directly related to the face angle plus the angle of descent. Make absolutely sure your ball position is properly forward for the driver. Ask somebody to look at your ball position, or at least carefully position some clubs on the ground to check this. I've been shocked at how comfortable I've gotten with crappy ball position over the years:eek:...

Sounds like angle of descent to me..I mentioned the swing speed cause I wonder if the pivot/tempo got out of control as you went along, seeing the "clubhead speed" numbers and all, I wonder if you "tried" to "fudge" the numbers/ swing harder. If I were you I'd do it on a more reliable machine and just try to hit the ball solid and not worry about the swing speed and the numbers. Tell the person doing the machine not to tell you the stats, until afterwards (do this on TRACKMAN). I think then you will come up with a more reliable assessment.
