How does everyone practice keeping the club on plane?

In the laser thread many discussed all of the negatives about practicing plane with lasers. I am just curious if anyone out there has any effective methods to practice keeping the club on plane. Obviously a qualified instructor like Brian is best, but what other methods are there to use between visits to the lesson tee?

If you have fixed your club face, isn't it easiest to just learn from the ballflight?

Other then that, a mirror or video would be best I presume.

Imo it's not so much keeping a club on plane as making the plane that you want to be on. So figure out your plane with practice swings, then use that plane for your real swing.

..

Strangely enough, I never think about plane....
I work at a good backswing, where the pivot/arm/hands take the club to the top, from there, well, the ball is on the ground and in order to hit it at all, the club must follow the correct plane on the way down....or I'll miss it!....
But that's just me...:D

I would say im the same way... I never think about plane.

I have worked on my swing plane for years with little effect until I learned the importance of the right shoulder working downplane. I took a lesson from a Haney disciple who focused on the clubs plane and had me losing distance and not hitting one solid shot for three months. Reason, I was swinging on a good plane but did not rotate the sweetspot. Focus on clubface, its funny when you do that, plane takes care of itself to a certain extent. I agree that the towel plane drill works well, just watch the clubface.

wooden board at range and towell plane board at home(from keeping me to swinging too far right)
Plane lasers (to make sure my backswing isn't going too in because FOR ME if i suck it too far in i'm toast)
wooden board at range and towell plane board at home (to watch where i exit the divot after the ball to make sure i don't come out of my spine angle too soon)

I'm not a fan personally of boards or foam to alter path without a pair of eyes watching you because the are plenty of ways to manipulate the club to avoid hitting obstacles. Not bad though. I practice slow motion swings in a mirror to ingrain feels and then discipline myself to reproduce those feels.

doubled,
Your talent to strike a ball is phenomenal due tot the fact you trust the motor skill you practice to receive feedback from a mirror. That is why your ballflight changes for the better because you trust the motor skill acquisition that produces a BETTER BALL FLIGHT. Every student of the swing should learn the skill and apply it to the ball with properly fitted golf clubs(compliments of Jim K.) You learn to adjust to tbhe implement you use!!!!
