How long can you get

Stealing a thought from the how good can you get post, it would be interesting to hear of increases of distance of thirty yards or more and how it was accomplished. Is it possible to increase distance beyond thirty yards? Equipment and fitness may contribute up to twenty yards, but has anyone, Brian and staff, or other instructors, been successful at adding more than thirty yards of distance to anyone's game?

To my own

PW was 80, now 125. 8 iron was 120, now 150 ish, 5 wood was 185, now 225 -230, Driver was 220 or so, now 270 - 280. Same clubs. New swing. I'm 65.

How? This site, the DVD's and lessons with Brian and Ben.

I think there are limits to what an individual can achieve. Whats an improvement to one is normal for another.

Liftoff, although an improvement for you and congrats in all your clubs is normal distances for me. Can I hope to improve 30 yards or so probably not, probably would not want to.

Not to get into this but we are not all wired the same way, slow twich fast twich muscles, etc. How you are built, flexability, etc are all factors to consider. JMO

I think just about anybody can get longer; how much depends on how close you are to your limits physically, as well as technically. I think 30 plus yards is very doable, particularly for those whose technique isn't the best, as well as for those who aren't in good physical condition.

I've had bad driver fundamentals for years. Finally understanding the pattern that I've been trying to duplicate, adding a few robust components, and a better set-up have me hitting my driver very long and in the fairway.

I went from a sprayer that could hit it anywhere from 260-285, to a player that hits 290-330 and maxing out at the occasional 350 pull draw roller.

Golf is good.

The guys that add a lot of distance most likely all have some sort of major swing flaw before improving their technique.

I wanted to play a control game, but banging driver is more fun and less stressful.

...I wonder if you still say so when you start to play on a course with REAL roughs ;)

Having said that I agree that eliminating serious swing flaws will help to gain more distance better than training force and speed, although both are important steps in the search of our own swings.

Cheers

So you are as long if not longer than Tiger?
Can anyone confirm this? so many people on the internet think they can hit it these crazy distances

Lots of long hitters out there.........

It of course counts for something with regards to ability and mechanics.............but it also doesn't necessarily mean anything. No offense to you s-m. (but you prolly get what I mean anyway)

My personal best last year was 375 and I can carry it near 300 on a good day. (with an old TM 300 Series driver)

I'm only 5'10 160.....not in shape un-4-chin-ate-lee. (bench press prolly about 170)

Even though I'm proud enough of it, I really don't want to brag. In reality there are lots of long hitters out there.

I agree with Birdie. 300 yards+ is no longer unheard of, distancewise. And there are quite a few people out there longer that Tiger. Heck, he isn't even the longest guy on tour. And as many longdrive guys as there are out there (not to mention the wannabes who are not-quite-long-enough), I wouldn't be so quick to question someone's posted length. These days, with the advances in technology, fitness info, and with the increasing popularity of golf among "real athletes", I would be more dubious these days if someone posted a very low score than a very long drive.

I totally agree with Bigwill and Birdie. There are many long hitters both on tour and at your home course. I got angry a few years ago when playing with guys that could bang it 300 but couldn't hit a 9 iron to save their lives. LOL Now I'm a sucky iron player and a long driver... I use to live and die on my iron play.

Driver: +1
Wedge: +1
Everything else: 0

I got better at the two things I worked the most on... DOH

I can confirm it, but sadly that might not be good enough for you:)

Longer than Tiger?
MEH
My drives hit the fairway in a predictable pattern (on the left side of the fairway), but I don't have any majors or even a tour card.

SM- getting better everyday!

I have picked up some yardage since my last lesson with Brian. I didn't pick up 30, but I have picked up around 10 yds on average. I'm pretty sure the increase is due mainly to my improved hip turn. My club head speed was measured last year before my lessons with Brian and I averaged around 112mph. I haven't been checked lately but I doubt I picked up more than a couple of mph.

I don't think I could pick up 30 more yards at my age. I remember reading an article about Fred Funk committing to a strength training regime last year and he was hoping to pick up 2 mph. I would assume his swing is pretty solid already with good impact specs and optimum launch angles. So expecting a 30 yard increase with an already solid swing would seem to be wishful thinking. I suppose if a golfer had really poor equipment they could pick up some impressive gains with a well fitted driver/shaft combo. I might be wrong, but it seems like really long hitters aren't made, they are born.
