How to convince a friend?

I have a close friend that started about a year ago and I told him he should get lessons which he did and still does. The problem is that I now know a little about the swing and realize that he's getting some bad info. The instuctor used to teach at a Nicklaus/Flick school so he thinks he's god. My buddy cast really bad and I was showing him how to chip with the hands leading the club and such and how he should retain the lag.
Then I see him today and he said the instuctor told him he was releasing way to late(4 iron 150 yards-6 foot 2-190 pounds of muscle)and that the club should get to the ball before the hands. He's telling him to just swat at it. Then he also said the left wrist must be cupped at the top.
The thing is I want to help but he's set on this jerk helping him and I don't know enough to properly instuct him. Any ideas?

That's brutal...

You don't tell anyone to cast it more....definately not a beginner who prolly already is casting the clubhead.

He should hit it much further than that.

Tell him to get a second professional opinion if he won't take your word for it....it should be obvious because he won't be improving with this guy either...

Jim Flick teaches an upright "two-plane" swing that a features cupped left wrist at the top and a cast to "synch-up" the arms with the body. It's OK if you're Tom Watson, but I agree that your friend should be getting a lot more out of his swing. Buy him the "Flipper" DVD...

well it is possible he was releasing too late at the time

as you probably already know - unless he takes yr advise on board himself your proabaly wasting your time and energy :)

how to improve his odds of taking it on board:

show him ie. demonstrate the difference by hitting balls together even chips

there is so much free TGM video footage around now - point him to some and get him to comment on what he feels about it

view Redgoat's site - see what pros and top amateurs do

etc

I have been where your friend is and it is not a nice place. When I started playing I bought into the Leadbetter rubbish despite being warned by a former England amateur International that used to play with Faldo as a junior. He said leadbetter was a fraud. I had a lot of lessons with Denis Pugh just after he split his partnership with Leadbetter and he really messed me up. Gary Player gave a clinic after an Open at a local golf course and the former international that warned me asked Player what he thought of Leadbetter. I think he asked the question with me specifically in mind. Player was scathing and the word fraud was mentioned several times. It took me spending a lot of money on lessons to get worse and getting it straight from a plus figures golfer and a Major winner to wake up. Thankfully I found TGM. I really want to see Brian and the TGM guys get well known and show these frauds up for what they are. Golf is hard enough without the blind leading the blind. My advice is let this thread build up and then show it to your friend. "You can take a horse to the water but you can't make it drink. " I wish you and your friend good luck . If he continues with this guy he is going to need it. TGM needs an united front and big push so that the golfing public has a choice. Right now the public has a choice of garbage, rubbish or trash. This needs to change.

Right on Jeffy, his swing is very upright. I taped a flashlight to his grip a few weeks ago and the light was way inside. Would this swing not need perfect timing to play good day in and day out? One of the things I love about the swing I've learned here is that it's powerfull and easily reproduced.
It would be nice if Brian would chime in as more proof so I could show my buddy this. I'm trying to talk him into seeing Brian with me.(we're only an hour from Louisville). Thanks to everyone...
