i have a question involving the traditional horizontal hinging. not sure if i do it incorrectly or not. is this something you would intentionally try to do? sometimes i have the feeling as if i come through the ball with vertical hinging, as if i am just trying to take a half swing into the ball.

If horizontal hinging (full roll) doesn't come natural to you, then you gotta 'fake it 'till you make it'! This means using hand manipulation if necessary!

Few things that help:
Neutral grip with a clubface that closely matches your left wrist.

A pivot that compresses your left arm across your left chest during start down.

A pivot that throws your arms across your chest during impact and follow through.

Setting up with enough axis tilt and getting enough axis tilt at impact.

Hitting down on the ball - low point in front of ball.

No excessive right arm power.

I've found horizontal hinging for me comes easier once you learn to lag the sweetspot and get your pivot to send the right side lower and more forward. Look at the cover to NSA.

Tongzilla,

Why does excessive right arm power interfere with a horizontal hinge? I've spent a lot of time playing with patterns that actively use the right arm in a swinging pattern, and never experienced any problems using a horizontal hinge.

i feel i try to get too much right hand or side into the ball. feel as if my body wants to go beyond the left side. would an image of trying to throw the toe of the club into a box past impact work?
