i like to practice distance control with the wedges...hitting 50 to 100 yarders with different clubs. i'll also put targets out at 5, 10, 15, 20 paces, etc. and hit bumps, pitches, flops, etc. to them.
nowadays i really just go to the range if there is something wrong..otherwise i use the range to warm up and hang around before a game..=)
i find that when i'm in the range nowadays..i only tend to tinker and ask more yardage from all my clubs..I would rather get sharper at my pitching, chipping and putting which is what i spend 90% of my out of game practicing...=)
i like to start with the shorter clubs and work my way up to the driver. i alternate odd and even numbered irons on range visits so i do not wear out the grips. i always finish with the club i am going to use on the first tee.

Love to go to the range. Has to be grass though. If I could take what I do at the range to the course I`d be good. Everything works for me at the range but it doesnt on the course, why is that??

No consequences on the the range. I've had days on the range where I could make the ball do what I wanted. Never been able to do that on the course. I think if I could take that carefree attitude to the course, I bet I'd be fine.
I'll work a good twenty minutes or so on the specific issue I'm having at the time, then go right into play mode on the range. If I don't create pressure , even if it's imaginary, the practice session is not as productive.
