Wondering how you can read your divots to help you better determine why the ball went where it did. For example, ball goes right while divot points left of target - open clubface and over the top? Where should a good divot be pointing?

Open clubface for sure.

How far left was the divot?

Where should a good divot be pointing?

It should start barely to the right, go straiht for a bit, then CURL left.

That's if you want a straight ball.

Diagram of divots

I would say my divots tend to point to the left and would look somehting like like this:
Mine would be like this: \|

whereas:
| = straight at target
\ = left of target
/ right of target.
