How to score low in golf

I realize it doesn't matter how pure you can hit the ball.

I was hitting pretty well over the last weekend, playing with my uncle who can barely get the ball up in the air.

We shoot the same score 82. I putted poorly, he putted well last weekend.

All our balls were in play. I only missed one green, i three putted a few holes while He didn't have any 3 putts.

You just have to get the ball in play and putt well!

you hit 17 greens? nice ballstriking round, score notwithstanding.

i cannot believe i 3 putted 7 feet from the hole a few times.

I was striking it so well. just pure. However, the green was 11 in speed that day.....not sure if that matters. I was shaping shots the way i wanted, distance control was superb.

50 % , 75% , 100% swing.

felt really proud. Kinda disappointed the way i putted tho.

I've never even heard of someone shooting 82 with 17 greens. It's almost impossible unless you have complete yips or made a 10 on the hole you missed the green. What's up with the putter??

oh my if i hit 17 GIR the course record is in jeopardy!!!!!! If i were you i'd spent the next 7 months on putting not even Tebow can save that number.

Here is the trick to low scoring:

1. Limit your "throwaways" (3-putts or more, missed greens inside of 100 yards, penalty shots, pitch outs)

2. Keep it in play off the tee.

3. Get up and down at least 50% of the time.

4. Make birdies.

What really helped me to improve my putting (apart from using my PuttingMaster application ;-) was to do 'Gate' drills as often as possible. You set up a gate the width of a ball plus 1cm on each side. Then you try to putt through it from about 3 to 4 ft. You try to hit putts of different length. When I started doing that I was hitting the gate all the time, now I hardly ever hit it on putts up to 10 ft only when on longer putts when I have to take a much longer putting stroke I still hit the gate from time to time.

What it does is it makes sure that you really hit the ball on your intended target line. Your reading could be brilliant but if you don't hit it where you want to hit it you never know whether your read was off or your stroke.

I've build myself a little putting station for the office where I practise this gate drill everytime I take a break from the computer.
I've posted a picture and instruction on how to build it over on Michael Jacobs site: Indoor putting green, recommendations request - The Explosive Golf School Forum

No way, no how I'm starting a thread saying I hit 17 greens and shot 82. Jen, I'm not sure which half of those stats I don't believe, but I aint believing 1 of 'em.

There were a few times, the ball kept rolling off the green. sad

I also had a couple of OB's fro the tee. First time playing there.

I missed at least 7 birdie chance :((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((

i hit couple shots from 175 within 6 feet away from the hole. i never putted so bad in my whole life.

You need to put the ball below the hole. That comes with good iron play. You want straight putts on the zero line, not curlers all day long which you'll miss. Great putting starts in the fairway and ball placement on the green near the zero line. Not even pros make 5-8 foot curlers all day long. They know where to place the ball for an easy putt and can put the ball there. (zero line is an AimPoint term).
