how to stop popout on the takeaway with a driver?

I have a tendency to lift the club and move it out wards rather take it away as a one piece on plane. I tried drill for putting the club in your belly and extend your arms, using a towel under your arms as a drill, the figure 8 band, putting a aliment rod down on the floor and matching it up. when I hit chip, pitch and half shots I can feel it but I have so much problem with woods especially the driver. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Setup with a ball as normal place another ball on the ground about 6-12 inches behind and just outside the target line. Don't hit the ball on the ground with the club head on the take away.

You may have to turn the pelvis sooner to do this consistently.

can you feel what keeping the clubhead outside your hands feels like? hinge the club up ( radial deviation, not around) from address and make a little turn back keeping the club outside your hands. from there it should hopefully feel pretty intuitive. you've just gotta keep drilling it. another feel is moving your hands more straight back. you can also try pushing the handle with your left hand straight back instead of rolling your wrists inside. you should hopefully feel the triangle you establish at setup with your arms move as a whole rather than break down early. hope this helps. video tape yourself without a ball drilling it until you get it. once you do, the pop out will not feel right at all.

edit: are you talking manzella popout or the actual clubhead coming outside?

My first move in the swing us for my hands to move forward then around over plain when I see It on my phone. I took some lessons with Mike Jacobs and he called it that, it's very apparent with the driver, as a result my ball position moves more forward and my stance gets more open, resulting in a pull. If I set up square or closed it's a slice, I just can't get my backswing consistent with it, I am going to try to upload the video on. My phone. Later today. Thanks everyone for your suggestions..

Best 'feel' i've ever been given for this (via Brian) is to try and have your hands brush your right thigh on the backswing.
and then what?

I often see videos telling you the one piece take away, but they never explain what happens after?

If you roll your arms after, it will be more open than normal. If you don't roll them over you will be super across the line. ie Jason Dufner and Bubba Watson

Do you cock your wrist after that? I still don't understand this.

The lower you keep your hands and the closer they subsequently stay in relation to the body in the takeaway, the flatter the backswing achieved, unless you add a little lift towards the end of the backswing. Seperate to that is the wrist cock which could be cocking up and down or flexing straight backwards a la NSA. There's a dozen combinations between

Low hands start, lift arms late like furyk
Low hands start, low hands finish like kuchar
High hands start, high hands at top like Johnson
High hands start, low hands late like Sergio

Many hall of fame players with different types of back swings. They didn't " fix" them towards a model. If you are striking it well with a different looking back swing there is no reason to change it. If the move contributes to striking it poorly that is another story. Sam Snead said he took it away all in one piece and that club was inside as anyone.

The op question was about getting rid of popout not about an entire backswing, that's a different thread.
