How would "they" do with MY gig?

It gets a little old to constantly talk about OTHER teachers, and how THEIR STUFF and THEIR TEACHING has effected some TOUR player or their REGULAR golfer/students.

It usually implies that I could or couldn't "do it" any better, or how one or more of the other teacher on this site, or elsewhere would do in THEIR spot.

But, what if we REVERSED all of it?

How would Leadbetter, Haney, Harmon, Flick, O'Grady, Bennnet and Plummer, etc. etc., do if they PLAYED MY GIG?

Picture THEM traveling around the country doing two-day 4:2 schools, and one, two, three and six hour, one-one-one teaching. Remember they have to do it with a website that gets almost 4 million hits a month and they will be talked about on every competior's site for 99 years if they SCREW UP somewhere.

They have to DO IT with sold out TGMers, golfers who want ALL the info you have, and golfers who want NONE of it, ZERO mechanical info, just what to do to hit it better.

And they have to do it WHILE they answer posts, live out of suitcases, do video answers, YouTubes, etc.

How would they do?

I'll tell you what I think....

But....you first. ;)

I honestly can't answer how any of them would do it, because I don't know any of them, but if I were to stereotype for a minute....

I think they'd all retire. For guys like Leadbetter, Haney, Harmon, and the like, they are at what some feel is the 'top of the mountain'.
I don't think helping those who truly keep the golf industry afloat is what appeals to them anymore. I'd surmise it would be too difficult for them to WANT to jump out from the command center, put on some fatigues, and get in the foxholes with hacks.

Sure, I could go into depth, and try to break down each instructor, but as I said, I haven't a clue as to who they really are as people and what type of desire they still have for their profession.

But, if you want, you can come to my retail business for a day or two, and enjoy some fun filled time dealing with the entire spectrum of the population. In exchange, I'll follow you for a day or two, and see what life's like inside the Manzella Matrix. ;)

I can only assume, that I will leave confirming what I already know, that like you or lump you, we must acknowledge that you love what you do, or else you would not deal with all the above.

I don't always agree with everything that goes on here, but I seriously doubt that any of the mentioned would or could work as hard or put as much energy into it as you have. There are other teachers whose work ethic is where yours is, but their not on that elite field either.

It seems to me that all the big name teachers have been successful based on:

A) Working with or being associated with a previous generation teacher or big name. It's all about who you know.

B) Having a student hit it big and heap praises on you. Which is a self fulfilling prophecy. As you get bigger you get more and more shots with better and better players.

The website thing is the big difference and to be honest I thing a wide open discussion forum is not the best way to showcase your talents. Too much other crap and other peoples crap to wade thru to get to any real "meat". I believe you are very good at what you do. When you "lose" people is when you come across as arrogant and condemning to other instructors. I think it would be much better to put your info out in measured doses and leave any discussion to

A) topics that you personally originate and want to discuss.

B) answers to peoples swing questions as it applies within your system

If you're that good you don't have to tell people how bad everyone else is, put it out there and let it stand on its own. People will figure it out real quick what the real deal is. But like I said a wide open forum just allows too much "outside" junk to take away from what it is that you do. Doesn't allow you to showcase your talents and what you do. I think a slightly different business model would take you even farther. Have some good ideas. JMO

And no they probably wouldn't or couldn't be willing or able to do it your way. And if they did they probably wouldn't be where they are at cause they would be so busy defending themselves from the attacks and why someone elses method is this or that.

Its not a challenge to you as an instructor brian, there's nothing wrong with talking about other teachers and what they teach on your forum...You shoudn't feel threatened but instead honored that people would solicit your own opinion as a guru of the game on these instructors...after all, if these people didn't believe in your own personal abilities as a teacher then this woudn't be an issue for your forum...

I'd have to say that Jim Hardy would be the only one that I would think that might come close. He I believe is the only one that even has a working forum (not that he replies much from my past experience with it). The others I don't think even have a much of a website (I'm not sure I've not looked in some time). Butch Harmon has become too "rock star" image / ego to deal with the masses. David Leadbetter I don't think would have the patience to answer the same questions over and over. Hank Haney would survive with face to face instruction but not forum based answers.

Brian I think you and your guys are in some respects are like musicians that have been around touring for years. You have to be willing to keep playing the same songs over and over every day because each day brings a new audience.

Oh, Don't get me wrong...

I love to "carve 'em up."

I just wanted to TURN THE TABLES on 'em, so to speak.

As far as "not being critical" helping my cause...I doubt if I'd have gotten this far in this medium, by being anything but totally honest.

As far as Haney surviving doing Tour Stops...no way. I have seen the guy teach. No way. He'd help a lot of folks, but he'd lay and egg somewhere and he'd get RIPPED TO PIECES online.

When Me and Michael Jacobs did our first school together a few weeks back, Michael told me "I have NEVER been this tired after tow 9 hour teaching days. I teach 9 hours a day EVERY day."

I responded with an all-time best answer:

"That's because you never taught two 9 hour days, back-to-back, where if you MESSED UP EVEN A LITTLE, your CAREER is OVER!"

Michael agreed 100%

Brian,
First off, let me say thanks for this great forum and all of your FREE advice.
What I can surmise is that most of the big name instructors skin would be rather thin. I can not imagine that they would handle the naysayers and detractors very well. I think the difference between you and the rest is that your agenda is to fix, not sell. Your passion for helping is evident.
I am happy that we can still get your FREE advice via the board and lessons (which I plan on attending on LI - Paypal forthcoming) before you get too big.
Sorry if this sounds like a referral, but I have been to see a "well known" TGM instructors and others and I have learned more on this site than everywhere else combined.
Keep up the great work!

The creation of the 'Manzella Matrix' has positioned you for a rise in AJ Bonar fashion. Make a DVD set, a workbook, create some type of training device, and you will be well on your way!

Has Lead ever demonstrated what he preaches? Lead would be dead.

Hardy already has his matrix: the one plane swing/ the two plane swing. He also seems to be a ball flight instructor, so he would give you a run for your money.

Haney: MEH! He doesn't understand plane and couldnt hit driver for 8 years.......

O'grady: Comes off as a bitter old man and a social midget. Only golf nerds come his way.

I don't mind your arrogance because golf is way too dainty and never has been a 'gentleman's game.'

I think that most would fail at the trash talking portion of your shtick.
