How would you go about rebuilding your swing?

Obviously a good teacher. Video. Any books - Watson's new book?

Know my mistakes and know how I have swung when I used to hit it well. Want to get back to it but do not know how.

Used to play well with a pretty simple swing. Tee in butt end of club. Get it pointing at the ball relatively early in backswing and get it pointing at it relatively quickly after impact. Hit high draws.

Swing now - left and rights. No power. No wrist cock (no leverage) No feel for the club.

Big issue is have very little wrist cock. Leads to poor compression, lack of speed, poor distance and I a sure it leads to my army golf

I believe Brian said the the next video he plans on redoing is building blocks. That sounds like a great place to start. But, I have no idea when the video is do to be out.

Harvey Penick advocated starting backwards from green to driver. Putting is decent, but ingraining a better pitching motion that can lead to a better full swing makes some sense. thoughts?

hmm - there's a school of thought that says the optimal sequence of movement in short-game/pitching is practically the reverse of what you want in your full swing. I'd say work on your full swing for a better full swing.

Total rebuild, from scratch, ouch!!!!!! Theres not one thing you have right now that is good in your swing? I read were you said no wrist cock, poor compression, lack of speed, poor distance and army golf. If what I learned here mean anything is get one of these GTE guys to check your swing out before u scrap all of it.

I would think 'fix' instead of 'rebuild' or 'overhaul.' Fix the things that are giving you problems. An overhaul to me is changing everything...regardless if it's giving you issues. Sometimes you might wind up fixing so many things that you do wind up overhauling the swing, but I think that's better than being bound and determined to overhaul the entire swing.

I think a camera is very important. You need to make a commitment to constantly video taping your swing and make a commitment to work on the things you've been instructed to do. It's very easy to think 'well, I'm not where I want to be with the mechanics, but I've been hitting it better lately so what's the big deal?'

What will usually happen is down the road your ballstriking will sour and it's because you never fixed those mechanics giving you an issue. It's also very easy to fall back into old habits or create new, bad habits. So that's why I feel that a camera is mandatory. No...you don't have to draw any lines or anything like that. But, you should be able to clearly see if you are making the changes or not and you can use that to your ability. I would try to bring the camera out every time I practice. When you're playing, I'd put it away.

I do believe in getting a Casio because the hi-speed camera helps a lot. But, I think you need to film in normal speed as well because hi-speed can fool you if that's all you film in.

And yes, I think Trackman can be very helpful as well. I think the camera helps get the big picture as to how close you are to changing the mechanics and Trackman is great at helping fine tune those changes or get over that last hump.

I completely disagree that you have no wrist cock in the backswing. I also don't think there's anything wrong with standing up a bit like you do in the backswing. Just my .02

Some swing video:
Driver straight: Untitled - YouTube
Driver big block cut which I hit all the time: Untitled - YouTube
Iron: Untitled - YouTube

No wrist cock, almost stand up in back swing then lurch down.

Hasn't anything to do with wrist cock or thinking you stand up and lurch down, take a good long look at your left arm position just in the area before impact from DTL , there is no way you can bring the head of the club around to square the face with your left arm in that pushed out away from your body position unless you flipped it like crazy. Your hand path is off which puts your left arm out away and going to the right, and leaves the clubhead back and open, it can't get around to square up..JMO.

Have you thought about deepening your hip turn? Your upper body turn looks great, but your lower body hardly turns at all. A restricted lower body can create a lot of tension that can disrupt the downswing sequencing and timing, primarily firing too soon, so there is nothing left when it is really needed. In your "big cut" swing, your body just seems to die in the downswing. Swing more like this guy:

I rebuilt my swing in the past year and am very happy with the results. I mostly lengthened my swing, both upper and lower body, and that, surprisingly, improved many fundamentals without any conscious direction.

Here you are at the top:
