Hue,
In the past you mentioned your use of the Clearkey mental system. Are you still doing it? Would you mind explaining the concept?
I just played this weekend and was a complete headcase (as usual) and it really is keeping me back. Every last thought I have is "don't."

I did, but it does not have a lot of information on the system and tells you to buy the book.

etc.

His stuff can be tough to read sometimes cause it's so long (he explains everything very thoroughly) but I think his program is unreal.

Honestly I think the guy's way ahead of his time....haven't read many other "mental game" books but there's something about this one. It seems to have more substance than most stuff you read. You can tell he's really knowledgeable.

He's offering this book free till the end of the month apparently:

I haven't read it much but I have read a lot of "The Double Connexion."

Ben Doyle says " Conscious thought annoys subconscious thought" . He is right. The clearkey ebooks are about learning how to play on automatic mode on a habit level so that you don't get in your own way by performing with conscious thought while executing the shot. His clearkeys provide a way of doing this. Also clearkeys are used when learning. You hit 4 balls consciously working on whatever swing change you are working on then 4 using clearkeys that put you on automatic mode and do 4 sets of them. You can not operate on a conscious level and a habit subconscious level at the same time. You are either operating subconscious habit level or a conscious manual level. You perform you best golf on a habit level and clearkeys put you into that mode. Carey Mumford also has a brilliant player style survey. You will fall into one of four categories with some cross over. When you know what style you are you read up on how that style should play and alter your golf behaviour patters to conform with it. For example I am an analyser like Hogan, Langer and Tom Kite. Analysers must do things slowly in an organised way so if they get rushed and play fast they will be out of their groove and perform badly. Other styles eg driver would be wrecked playing to the slow way an analyser should go about things and should play fast and not spend time over the ball. Your playing style is genetic. No one style is better than another but if you are not playing to the traits of your innate style this will cause stress and will affect performance. I understand that his style survey is either the same or close to ones used by the US military and is very accurate. I have a high opinion of Mr Mumford's work . You should buy the ebook.

Thanks. I have a shelf full of mental books but have not found one that clicks for me. They all are too simplistic, esp. Rotella's stuff.

I failed to point out that a lot of his work is geared towards anxiety management. Once the fight/flight response is triggered hormones and chemicals are released in the body that affect the way your body performs. Once these are triggered you are no longer the same animal and it takes a considerable amount of time for the body's system to run through it's primeval response and settle to normal. By that time you would have collected a whole heap of needless shots . A lot of his work is to prevent you losing it in the first place. Once you have triggered the anxiety response and let the gene out of the bottle it is too late. His work is designed to stop you losing it and conserving emotional energy. It is protection. Carey Mumford is a nice guy and will respond to emails .

Ya...he sends me his own "audio answers" some times...in response to questions. Cool stuff.

His book explains how everything works....anxiety....conscious thought....learning.....etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. x1000.

Lots of AHA moments....big time lightbulbs.

I just think he has mapped it all out so well in The Double Connexion.....his explainations are long (lol sorry Carey) but man does he cover everything well.

IMO Carey is way ahead of his time....

His book has helped me develop my own "system" of management....managing anxiety, dealing with/organizing conscious thought, preshot stuff, etc. etc........and it's exactly what I needed....a system......I'm pretty methodical so I needed it all mapped out....and something that would cover (or could adapt to) any situtation, no exceptions. i.e. freedom to strategize etc.....but all within a sensical management "system".....so I can refer to it quickly if I start feeling the heat.

Honestly, I'm starting to think of him in a Homer Kelly like way....
