Based on those swings, for me and my preferences, your hands are too low and deep and elbow too low and in. Unless the video is playing tricks on me it appears that you go from that position to a slightly steeper higher hand/arm position and then transition down. A lot of movements going on, it's almost like you are trying to do the hardy 1 plane swing but just not doing it right. PM if you want more.

PS..btw those videos are kind of what i thought you'd look like in my head :p

Thanks, Jim, actually the big thing I've been working on recently is trying to lay the shaft off during the start of my downswing so that I can tumble all the way down. In the epic Sergio Tumble thread, Lindsey Newman and others highlighted how Hogan, Sergio, Creamer and others do this.

At some point, though, I ran into problems with the driver so I had to focus on vertical hand path. Anyway, am I right that my swing could use a laid off move at the start of my downswing? Or should I focus more on other issues? Anyone feel free to PM if you'd like.

P.S.: I'm reminded that a few months ago, Lindsey Newman recommended the following for me:

You know Fowler, Sergio, Hogan and you have the camera. You have the physical attributes and the athletic ability. Your grip looks nothing like their grips nor does your left arm coming down. Get the grip to match the face to the left arm and get the left arm to operate in a more vertical manner coming down. Stand a bit closer to accentuate the verticality. Be prepare to hit some right shots as you improve the vertical of your attack and learn over time to work back to the plane, left through impact. Don't change your backswing unless your downswing tells you to. You will be mustard in no time.

I agree, it also looks like (and this may be the camera angle) that your backswing is quite a bit flatter than your follow through. If I saw your backswing I would think this guy probably plays a solid draw, but from impact on it looks like you're holding off a high cut.
If you approach the ball from the inside and are late to square the clubface to the target side of the path, fore right.

I'm no expert, but I'll just throw out my intuition on this one. Seems to me that the biggest problem is being underplane ("approach the ball from the inside"). Stands to reason that humping the goat and reverse tumble are the big factors that drive the underplane problems. Right? Something I'm missing?

Well, MILD disaster today lol. Made a few birdies on short holes where I didn't have to hit driver, iron play was great, putter got hot. Hit 4 balls out of play with the driver...On the holes where I REALLY focused on getting the hands as high as possible, I hit the driver ok. If I didn't and was thinking more about face control, I'd send one off the planet to the right, or over do it and smother hook it. Definitely some things to work on...

whatever that stuff is... it doesn't sound like stuff you should want to be doing!

jk

your takeaway looks very inside to me, from there you keep turning your shoulders which just keeps it inside and flat.

imagine the club head staying outside your hands much longer into your backswing on a more vertical plane. your right elbow needs to fly a lot higher to give this room to happen. you'll blush when you see how easy it is to hit the ball when you let the club head work with gravity as opposed to around it.

LamboMGA, are you really trying to get your hands as high as possible? Or as low as possible?

That's not my swing, but I am working on getting the club more vertical.
