I had a lesson

I went and saw Ralph West who I used to work with back at Copper Canyon. One of the few guys I will REALLY trust to work on my swing. If he tells me to do something, I'll do it. Unlike the majority of instructors out there who I find just mimic what others say.

He had me do two things. First let my left arm roll more taking the club back and have my hands get flatter, more around my right shoulder. I know someone on this board will be thrilled to hear that.

Second, he wanted me to use my lower body MORE on the forward swing. He wanted me to really let my legs go.

The results were EXCELLENT. I have never seen so many beautiful draws in my life. They weren't pull draws either. They would start right and draw back.

Check out frame 39 vs 41. I'd prefer to see your action arrive at the top at 41. Be careful; take an aspirin, not the whole bottle;). It does look better than the older swing. Keep up the good work.

Yeah, it needs some work. I'd prefer to be at 39 personally. I fight a push fade that shorts me by 15 yards at times. The width and depth of those hands allows me to come in on a much shallower plane. Unfortunately I still have the habit of re-routing at the top to get steep.

Just to give you an idea, my average PW goes 142 when hit solid. Today I was consistently belting it 155. That wasn't just when I swung perfect, I was getting that distance whether the face was closed or open. I can stand being 30 feet left or right, but 15 yards short or long makes scoring in the 60's impossible.

What brand/model of irons do you play?

I could see the reason for the forearm action recommendation but could you expand on the leg action a little more?

More leg drive and don't let the shoulders go. I have a TON of unused flexibility in my old swing. He wanted me to use that flexibility and generate some speed.

In fact, my biggest problem now is that my hands are arriving too early. As a result I was hitting some sweeping hooks. When I let the lower body go it helped to keep the arms pinned back. Pinning them back and swinging more around allowed for an easier rotation of the forearms.

In the old swing I had to force the hands down early in the swing or risk hitting a huge block right. It meant a very forced release and almost no body turn.
