I had one of the best ball striking days ever

yesterday...sorry wouldn't fit in the title. I feel that my swing is pretty good and am a decent golfer. Plenty of room for improvement and that is why i want to make the G.O.L.F. workshot brian is going to host.

But wow, what a ball striking day! This also was the third day in a row i've struck the ball this well and it has been occuring *most* of the time i've been playing of late. Everything has been crisp with a very low starting trajectory that starts to sail away, reach a peak and slowly fall. It is really wonderful to watch. Even my playing partners were commenting on how well i was hitting the ball and how they heard that sizzle from the ball.

This isn't to gloat but more of a compliment because most of what i can attribute this to is the little bit of knowledge i have picked up from TGM. I mean, the night before last i had total control of my ball with just about every club. It was funny, one guy at the range said "wow you hit the ball well but you're all over the place." I told him no i'm not, i'm actually PLAYING those shots. They were draws, hooks, fades, and slices. All on purpose. He didn't believe me until i told him to ask me what to hit and then i proceeded to do it. It was unbelieveable, i was so board i decided to start trying to hit targets quite a ways away. Like one that is about 170 yards away and about 40 yards high. It was a big light, i was hitting 4 iron after 4 iron some hitting others just missing.

At the course i was striking low 3 iron lasers between 210-220 all day long. My best struck ball of the day was out of a fairway bunker about 220 yards out with a 3 iron! (no lip on the bunker) It came out like a rocket and had that awesome sizzle to it but i mis-aligned and it went through some leaves and came up short :(. However it still was a well struck ball.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to post my progress and enthusiasm

Nice to hear that you are hitting the ball so well.

What would you say is the biggest contributing factor to your recent improvement? Do you often try to hit the ball straight or are you always try to hit either a draw or a fade? What modifications at set-up do you make to hit these types of shots?

thank you

I wouldn't really call this "recent improvement" but rather a result of my hard work over months of hard practice. Some of the bigger contributing factors would include:

1) learned how to make my wrist flat at the top of the swing
2) in relation to #1, learning how the left wrist cocks and the right wrist bends
3) learning how to hit very low punch shots (promotes solid contact)
4) not trying to turn as much (shoulder turn)
5) focusing my eyes on the inside aft quandrant of the ball
6) praticing and focusing on rolling my forearms over instead of flipping my wrists

I tend to hit the straight ball but i am comfortable enough to fade it into greens. Not as comfortable with a high draw, but low draws i can do no problem. I need to practice it more and become more comfortable with my technique and how much the ball is drawing/fading before i do these things on the course

For fades i tend to open my stance a little and swing along that open line. This still produces a nice downswing but still allows the club to cut across the ball inducing the left-to-right spin. For a purposeful slice i simply create an out-to-in swing with a steep angle of descent. For draws i close my stance slightly and try and come from the inside more and i try and roll my forearms harder. I'm still not sure if this is the correct technique but it works for me.
