I have a serious problem

I have NSA, Fipper, Building Blocks, & The Movie. After watching NSA and Flipper I played and was striking the ball great.

Then I watched Building Blocks.

I have played twice since then and I am getting worse.
I have a great practice swing but when the ball is in front of me I try to kill it.

I am loosing my tempo, over accelerating?, pushing balls way to the right, coming up on my toes and spinning out.

You name it I am doing it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Doug

Roamer,

This happens to me from time to time, get a bit carried away and lose tempo.

I usually like to start hitting some chips and small pitches, and concentrate on hitting them with good rhythm, then build up to more full shots.

this enables me to see how far I can hit the ball with controlled procedures and then apply that to a more full swing instead of trying to gun it from the top.

Brian's videos are addictive and I want to try everything he mentions, but why alter a swing that works (your NSA/Flipper pattern)?

BM has said that NSA is the perfect companion for Flipper, so your success with this combination isn't surprising.

Building Blocks, depending on the end user, builds a maximum participation stroke. You are probably hitting positions and not swinging dynamically. Getting into the deep pitch position that this pattern requires takes work, and most neophytes end up with an overly open club face. I use a variation of this pattern with success. My pivot is more MA, I compress into my right side, and sit into my tilt, and fire my right arm.

I FEEL that my shift back to the left while driving my right shoulder takes care of the pull component of this pattern, and gives me all the rhythm I need to fire my right arm.

can you post your swing SM?
sounds like a pretty good move. and we've all heard your claims of 240 4 irons and so forth and so on ...

This is a good response and a good explanation. The NSA and flipper pattern work on getting people a more closed clubface than they are used too to get rid of all the leakage and weak shots. The buliding blocks pattern is as SM said, a maximum participation type pattern which creates a very delayed un-cocking of the left wrist and also closing of the clubface. It's probably as close to the "sequenced" release as one can get in theory and a lot of people don't have the ability to do that and still square the clubface in time.

Some people can just hit the long ball, my friend is as tall as me (5'10") but weighs barely anything; i'd guess maybe 150lbs and he swings the club in the 115-118 range and has no trouble getting his 4 irons in the 220-235 range. He plays a strong grip, a small draw, and i'm sure delofts his irons a good bit but his swing speed still puts enough spin on the ball to keep it high enough in the air.

He was also hitting 290-300 yard drives with "old technology" when i first met him too (titleist 975D with a vista tour 70)

good point jim, the kid in my signature is 14 and can hit 7i around the 155-160 mark and drivers around 260. and hes only about 5'5

anyway i just thought we should be treated to his move

Self-Mastery thanks for the response. So BB really did mess me up. I thought I was mistaken. I thought I could do BB and that would help me all the rest of Brian’s videos and learn his terminology.

So are you saying that the swing pattern in BB is different than NSA/Flipper?
And this comment “You are probably hitting positions and not swinging dynamically.” was dead on. My friends said it looked like my swing was herkey jerky. It was because I was thinking chip-pitch-store-release as I was swinging and not getting to a full follow thru.

What do you and Jim suggest I work on first? I feel I need to solely focus on NSA or Flipper until I can get a swing back.

Since when did this post become a love fest for SM. :)

Can we please get back to my "Serious Problem"?

Can I get an answer to the below?

Ok so I've watched the Youtube video of BB vs Flipper.

So from what SM and Brian says I think i have it now. Three different patterns.

Before I saw any of Brian's videos or visited this forum. I flipped all my clubs and sliced all my woods.

So I watched NSA and Flipper and this really improved my iron play but I still sliced my woods. So I drove the ball with the 4i and did pretty well. I was still slicing my woods because I was only implementing the first two NSA principles(grip).

So what I get from this and someone please correct me if I am wrong. I should forget the BB pattern for now and concentrate on Flipper. Once I get that down pat and if still slicing I should start implimenting NSA principles 1 thru 10 till I stop slicing.

Let me know if I got it right. I am heading out to the backyard to start Flipper training.:)

put BB on the shelf for a while. not that it wont help you, just proberly not at this point in your development. you see, you'll need a unique combination of Flipper drills/techniques and steps from NSA. so you'll end up with a unique pattern. and once you've mastered that pattern, you can start to take all the applicable pieces from building blocks

I am practicing the "un-hurdleable hurdle" drill from Flipper and it is really helping. I am using an impact bag as the hurdle. Also thinking about shooting the blood out of the ends of my thumbs.

I think I found the major problem. It was the ball too far forward in my stance causing me to lunge way out of alignment to get to it.

I am hitting the yellow rubber balls in my office now really well. I will be going to the range in the morning to see how I do with real conditions.

I have totally lost my swing

I went to the range and I can no longer hit a clean shot. It is like I am collapsing my right leg and side into the ball on the downswing and either hit a very weak shot or a really big slice with even my irons.

I know i said it before but i was getting better till I watched BB and now I am getting worse each day.
