I know i'm getting close

I am finally to the point of being able to "swing" the club using CF and not the hands. The feeling of the hands "just holding on" took a while to get the hang of after 20+ years of doing it wrong. Now my biggest problem is trying to keep the pivot from over accerlating thus casuing throw away.

My other problem for those +20 years was swinging too hard (with the hands); so now trying to get to slow and heavy is a challenge.

If you remeber what Lee Treviono said on the GC the other night he said it takes ALLOT of hard work and practice. TGM is no silver bullet - you have to put in the work to get the results you want. Many want immediate "long term" results but that will not happen (unless you are already "close").

What I like though is that you know the work is "on track" and you are following a recipe for success and not just a fad that will not hold up.

The pivot doesn't cause throwaway. Overacceleration is adding independent arm effort to the arm motion provided by the pivot. If you have proper sequential motion(Rhythmn) and stay in balance, you can't rotate too fast.

Good point. Thanks. I enjoy your posts MJ.........What kind of Mizuno's do you play? I've been using my son's MX23 irons the past month (he is currently in USAF Basic training)Even though they are bladelike I seem to hit them pretty well.

Thanks rbgolf - just wanted to share what I've learned the hard way. :)

I've used MP-29s since 1995, but have recently "rediscovered" my old set of Ping Eye2+s, which I hit better than the Mizunos in spite of the horrible looking offset. There's something about them that makes them better than anything I've ever hit, but I can't figure out what it is. [?]

Joe! Can you give us more on this? Do you start your pivot via the hips or feet or knees or whatever? How have you trained your pivot to get to this point.

Thanks man!

My pivot is a feet/hip/shoulder anticipatory action which happens with only my awareness of a big swivel of the upper left wrist bone from the top to both arms straight. I don't monitor PP #3 and passively aim it, but rather monitor the swivel, which causes the pivot to precede and power the angular motion of the swiveling left arm.

Cool. So you just concentrate on basically forearm rotation? What is your grip type?

MJ,

I put a set of rifles in my set of Ping Eye 2+ and the were the best irons I've ever hit. Never liked the look though, loaned them to a friend, who move to Dubai, he took the pings too. I too could'nt stand the offset look, and prefer to look of blades, but the performance was there. Your post is making me pine-away for those old sticks.

tobell,

That's a coincidence because my MP-29s have Rifles. Hmmm - Rifles in the Eye2+s. I'd have to change my handle to PingJoe.

Lots of people tell me that, too. For some reason the Eye 2s are a wonderful club that many people hold on to for years and years.
