So you get as far away as possible (at least 15M)from the subject then zoom in to get a useable image to reduce parallax?

Cool Mike.

Hey I saw a guy who looks just like you in a Cialis commercial the other day BTW. He was giving golf tips.

PS yes the accent does make it more believable, for some reason.

Interesting Mike, I was watching the Bob Hope Classic with the Golf Channel Guy (I think his name is Mike Breed?).He was saying that Duval basically cant play like he used to because he is not as shut and almost neutral at the top.

So to justify this parallex, junk phesudo science comment they proceeded to show a camerra angle from way to the side(rather than directly on the TSP) that made the whole thing not look shut. What a joke! The funny thing is that Frank Nobilo was in total agreeance and treated this instructor like he had Duval's secret or something.

Did anyone else see it?

The Golf Channel is a TV company and deals with cammera's all day long with expert cammera men. How do they not know this? They dont shoot TV commercials or Hollywood movies this way, but why do they shoot golf this way?

They also had a Titleist segment on Lie Angle. The explanation was that with improper lie angle will catch either the heel or the toe in the ground which causes the club to twist.

This myth was exposed at least by early '80's. Think I learned it from Ralph Maltby books. Obviously, the club hits the ball before the ground. If it did hit the ground first there is no way the ground is going to twist the club much before the ball is long gone.

The Titleist marketing folks probably felt that this explanation was the only one that would fit the time slot.

I think we have to realize what a huge threat enlightened instruction poses to the entire golf industry. The gurus and ad execs will have nothing to stand on if effective instruction becomes the norm. It's in their best interest to recycle outdated information and spew cliches, subtlely perpetuating the idea that there is some mystical secret to playing the game well.

The golfing masses must be kept ignorant to the type and quality of information we're priveleged to here. If the average golfer really knew why he slices, thousands of pros across the country would be filling out Golf Galaxy applications and Taylormade would be unable to release a revolutionary new driver every three weeks. The whole system would crumble.

This isn't to say that there is some secret society of overseers whose job it is to maintain the staus quo. It maintains itself through the traditionalism and resistance to change that characterizes the golfing world. It's kind of sad when a bright mind sides with the old guard, but it makes sense. Why challenge the system? It's so much easier, and usually more lucrative, to work within it.

Yes, you are right!

Also if the ground twists the club you must be hitting it fat to some degree.

Who wants to hit the ground first you want to hit the ball first dont you?

Track man can work out lie readings better anyway.

My God why do I write such stupid things. I must have been drinking a little.

Good thread and an important thing to know...esp. with how much video analysis people do now.

I agree with Mike and with Steve. This is overlooked far too often. It is silly.

I think a lot of these guys (too many) play it off like they know everything so they don't get replaced. (by someone who knows more or seems to) They MUST know they very often are BSing. Most people don't know the difference anyway.

That's about enough out of me. Time for bed...
