I Need more height Captain!

I have eliminated almost all leakage from my swing, and am squeezing the crap out of the ball. I am also hitting it straighter than ever. I have noticed that some of my longer irons, my utility and my 3 wood are extremely low and I feel that I have lost some distance as a result. (3 wood mainly)

Ball Positions are:
7---mid point of middle and left heel
4, 5 and Utility-----1 inch inside left heel
3 wood----left heel

How do I get more height on these shots without sacrificing the compression and accuracy?

1 of 2 reasons:

1) You are swinging too far to the right and essentially delofting the club in your hand more than the stated loft.

2) Lack of axis tilt

Hmmmmmm

I do swing too far to right, but lately that is reducing with more up and less around. Maybe I need to get more up those clubs I mentioned.

Thanks Jim.

Jim,
Are those normal ball positions for TGM?

Think I'd hit fat a lot with my 3-wood off the deck level with my left heel....:)

I do ball position completely different than what the book says and/or probably what even Brian does.

Essentially there is a customized ball position for YOU and the CLUBS you play.

also with ball position, your heal is irrelevant. if you play with your feet 30 inches apart and off your heal, the ball will be well after low point. if you play off your left heal and the heals are 2 inches apart, that will be well before low point. just something to think about

This is what I think it means...

I just went through a phase where I was tilting and not opening. It was F-U-G-L-Y!

What fixed it? Great advise here from Briman and Jim. At the rate of speed you are tilting you must be opening the left shoulder (I got out of thinking right shoulder down) up and back.

To me, when you focus on both, the timing seems to sync. Open the shoulder fast and the tilt is fast. However, when I just focused on the tilt alone, I got into this mess of dropping the right shoulder too much, too soon.

All is well now. Hitting very pretty shots with ALL clubs (well...3 wood could be better) for the first time in my short existence in golf.

So to expand:

What happens when you have too much axis tilt without the shoulders open, what kind of shot pattern will you get? High, low, left, right, fat, high left, low left, etc?....

It will be erractic basically you'll be hanging back, swinging a bit too far to the right and a lot of things can happen from there.

Could he possibly be delofting the club because he is concerned about not having leakage?

As my ball striking improved my trajectory became low and penetrating, but I gained distance.

3 main ways to REALLY deloft the club:

1) Ball too far back in stance
2) Swing too far to the right
3) Lose or don't have any axis tilt THROUGH impact

If the problem is #1, move it up.
If the problem is #2, fix the path.
If the problem is #3, fix the tilt.
