Ideal Driver Loft

Honestly, whatever the launch monitor tells you. It takes a lot of experimentation to find out the optimum loft because everyone swings different:

where they hit it on the clubface (loft varies from bottom to top, called vertical gear effect)
angle of attack
deloft at impact

For instance Hank Kuehne swings a lot faster than Tiger yet he uses a 10.5* club and Tiger uses a 8.5* head however tiger's went up 1* when he switched to the 460. If you compare hank's 400cc 510tp to tigers 410 ignite tiger used 7.5*.

Also closed, square, open faces all play a part.

Honestly i could go on and on. With a 117mph clubhead speed you should be around a 163-175 (assuming 1.40 and 1.50 smash factors). Launch angle should be in the 12-15* range and spin in the 2200-2800 range.

So i'd be willing to bet with the right shaft (assuming a square clubface) you'd want to have around 8.5-9.0 driver. Also if you are wondering why my launch angle criteria has a wide range its because the lower range is the more accepted "ideal conditions" why the latter is more of the newer ideas on proper launch and spin parameters.

Less loft, people tends to scoop. (The ball doesn't lift up high enough).. More loft encourage compression.
Selecting loft of the driver is all dependent on the course condition. If the grond is soft, then use a less lofted club. less lofted club will only help the ball to roll more, the minute the ball hits the ground. Should look at Chunk evan web about loft on the driver.

I'm sorry oz but i disagree for all the reasons i said above...it isn't just that simple. It can be if you want to be that way but i don't feel it is the optimum way.

Also, yes less driver loft will impart less spin but there comes a point when TECHNIQUE will also lower spin and the extra loft you choose is actually to improve your launch with MINIMAL spin increase.

Like i said, its a bit more complicated if you want to, like brian says, "do it right."

This is what Chuck Evan mentioned in his website... Hitting down rather then hitting up.
If you can teach me a bit more about the spin theory, where I learn it from the GBGS, in the "Search of the perfect swing" Page 4, they mentioned a bit on the spin on loft and club head speed.
More lofted club will give you more back spin, and more back spin will help you to have a more stable ball flight. Assuming you are hitting the ball with same Club head speed and attack angle, the one with more back spin will give you higher shot, the higher shot you get will give you more carry distance. I am not talking about the roll, just carry....

Driver Head with 11 degree swung at 100 miles per hour, nomally sends the ball away at 9degree or 10 degree above the horizontal, with a back spin of 60 revolutions per second. A good player's stroke with a typical seven-iron, which has a loft of 39degree, sends the ball away at about 26degree, with a backspin speed of about 130 revs per second.

What do you think? Please help me to find out those interesting answer, as I am not sure who is telling me the correct answer. But I think Chunk Evan and the GBGS can't be wrong.

Brian and Guys,

What is the ideal loft we should be having? I swing it at 117 mph...please advise

Why don't you take several and hit them? You should notice quickly which gives you the best flight.

Here is all I will say on the subject.

You need to hit every loft available of a Driver you like,

but, you will find, that 8.5-10.5 will fit most players with a "TGM" swing.

...oh....IF you have the right shaft frequency....!
