I'm Half Way There

In 2003, I won 6 or 7 PGA section events, set a money record that still stands (without playing in several Class A only events), made the cut and contended in a Nationwide event (with a 62 in the Monday qual), almost made the cut in my first PGA Tour event and set several course records along the way.

........in 2004 i shot more than ten rounds in the 80s and I think one in the 60s.

I was the victim of some bad info, poor concepts and tens of thousands of off season reps on a sort of parallel plane swing change that "looked good on video" but made me into a golfer that couldnt keep it on the course.

In 2006 I used smoke and mirrors to win our section's largest event only because the greens were so fast no one could make a charge at me. (Incidentally it was the year i started to understand the uncock and roll - or flip- so I could time it out for awhile) I also qualified for another Nationwide event that i briefly spent on the leaderboard before fading. I did beat some good players at the Monday qualifier:eek:

By 2007-8 I was golfing hell contemplating finding work outside the golf business. I bought a restaurant space and basically gave up. I had the putting, chipping, wedge and sometimes full swing yips. I was embarrassed to play in front of anyone and couldnt derive any pleasure from golf at all.

I met Brian in the meantime and told him I was his worst nightmare. Although I havent been able to spend as much time one on one with him as I would have liked, ive been able to sort through things he's recommended and fully connect the dots on what I thought about different mechanics. Basically, without his help I would be still thinking about the food business.

Fast forward to today. I started the season with some modest goals. I wanted to win a point event again, which I did. More then anything i wanted to qualify for the National Club Pro Championship, which I did today.

So I'm halfway home to my ultimate goal, to play in a Major Championship. If I could do that, any one of you can reach your goals. Remember, I had the full body yips and couldnt hit a green from 50 yds. If I can qualify for a Major with that mental baggage, that would be something else.

Cant wait for Hershey next year! Thanks Manzella!

Great stuff Kevin and congratulations on qualifying for the Club Pro event. Sounds like you may even be more than half-way there!

Perseverence is under-rated.

Very cool. Maybe you had to go through the other stuff to fully appreciate where you are now and be able to enjoy it.

Congratulations Kevin, That's a big accomplishment!!

I can relate somewhat to your struggles and light at the end of the tunnel now with finding the Brian.

You are on your way now and going in the proper direction.

Kevin,

As you can personally attest to after Laurel Valley, I am going through my own version of golfing purgatory. It feels like your 2004, 2007-8. I too, am embarrassed to play in front of anybody. It is comforting, however to know you've been through something similar.

Anyway...Congrats on qualifying for the CPC and Go get em at Southpointe. Any chance you're going to St. Claire on Sunday for a practice round?

Best of luck Kevin. As a guy I played baseball with in college who went on to play 18 years in the bigs used to say "it's just a matter of time"--if of course you are truly working toward a goal.

There is a definate chance. Give me a shout

On another thread you said "players play. Teachers teach." Looks like you are one of the few who can do both at a high level. Congratulations and looking forward to seeing you at Southpointe for the Mylan Classic---assuming they have any greens left that haven't burned out. I hope they can get the place in some semblance of shape for the tourney. I played there the first week of July and got to see some of the new tees put in for the event. Get your driver ready!

Congrats Kevin....

and best wishes in reaching your goal.

I am in golf-hell right now. I'll straighten it out but....it's no fun right now.

Did you even produce that under-plane video??????

Congrats on qualifying for the CPC from someone who "has been there - done that" (played in 13 CPC's from 1969 thru 1992).

Easiest way to qualify for a "Major" (finish in the top 20 to get in the PGA Championship) - I was fortunate enough to qualify 4 times for the PGA Champ - but only played in 3.
