If the inside part of the ball is hit with a clubface that, relative to the ball, is open (but square to the plane), and the face is square to the ball at separation then won't we hit a shot that starts straight and gently moves to the left?
My thinking is, that seeing that the initial direction of the ball is mostly due to where the face is at separation - in this case square to the ball hence straight to the target. Now seeing that the path is slightly inside (down to the lowest point of the swing), won't the ball have draw spin seeing that the path is more to the right side compared to where the face is pointing. Hence the shot that starts straight and draws to the left?
