Impact Position Part II

Ok guys, I focused on getting more of a neutral grip, similar to Brian's. Maybe I just have slower hands, but I kept hitting high fades, and could not turn the ball left. Divots straight, making solid contact, ball jets off and starts drifting right. Really struggled with the fairway woods. My question is, with the more neutral grip do you find yourself having to slow down the swing a bit to ensure you can square up the face. I have a naturally quick tempo and just couldn't seem to get my hands to catch up. Thanks

Are you holding off the shot with your hands trying to keep the clubface square for a long time?

Check the plane in your follow through. Have the shaft point at the base line post impact. Work on the Manzella full roll swivel. In his "Never Slice Again" video about 3/4 in the through swing when both arms are horizontal to the ground the left palm faces up in the catching rain drops position . When you hold the shot off you have more of a left palm down look in the same area.

Sounds good, I'll take your advice and work on it at the range. I also have a bad feeling that I may be sliding forward a bit too much instead of turning, therefore making it a little more difficult to get that face closed with a neutral grip.

What seems to be working for me (somewhat the same problem)is to establish an aiming point in front of the ball..you may, as I did, be holding off the hands..I encountered this by trying the "flying wedges" drill..I found that I was aiming behind the ball..when I changed my aiming point, the problem seemed to lessen...

Brian/Thread
I need a visual of the contact point on the golf ball (aft corner) does someone have an illustration? A TGM instructor stated the shaft is directed to the aft corner not the face of the club, I would like to get this clear.

Try this ridicules image to get into a proper pre-impact position. (This may be my swan song so hold on).

You are Bruce Willis, standing on a table, holding a golf club at the top of the back stroke. Your wrists bound tight and from the grip a long knife is extended from the butt of the shaft. Alan Rickman (Hans Gruber) is standing on the ground, the back of his head is in front of your left thigh, he is looking in the same direction you are. His ears run along the target line.
See ridicules, but lets go on... with wrists bound, still balanced on feet (bear and bloody as they may be), drop hands, lower right shoulder and stick knife into Rickman’s right ear.
Bruce sees what a perfect pre impact position he has. But before he finishes, Bruce gets into Proper impact position by turning Rickman’s head around to the left with a hard snap of his hips - aka pivot into the ball.

Bye

And further more, (you can tell I’m home with a fever today can’t ya), not trying to open that pivot/hands, hands/pivot argument, although I know my hands control the pivot and while the pivot transports the hands (hands = smart, pivot= dumb labor ) ... I feel as if I don’t even swing the club anymore till Rickman gets it in the ear.
Then and only then, as Ben puts it, snaps the right hip hard into the ball and follow through.

NightQuil, here I come.

6bee1dee, glad to hear the "snap your right hip hard into the ball" part. I think that may be the missing piece for me. I have good lag, strike the ball purely, divot is good. But just can't get squared up with the neutral grip. I've recently switched to a neutral grip in an effort to cure my hooks. I think I'm trying so hard to get my hands in front of the ball, I have let my body kind of slide left, rather than turn.

Sounds like you're on hydrocodone or the like alrady. I'll try what you said as well, but I will use Cybil Shepard instead of Rickman.

ArchMan

Again I ask the thread or Brian for a visual or explanation of the inside aft corner in clear concise terms, Iwould appreciate it.

Tball, i can only answer in terms of me, as i had that same problem.
Brian watched me and quickly noticed my hinge action was wrong.

cdog, can you give a little bit of detail on what you were doing regarding hinge action, versus what Brian recommended? Thanks
