Impact Position

Playing around in the back yard with the video camera i was having a look at my impact position.

My 'normal' impact position is the one on the left

The one on the right was the best of the swings i made trying to concentrate on getting more open and not stopping the pivot.

Any thoughts on that impact pic on the right? looking ok?

Cheers

Are you sure that the one on the left isn't your address position? In any case, the position on the right is miles better than the other.

The one on the right is LOADS better than the left. I concur with cyner, is the one on the left truly impact?

From my untrained eye's view, you are completely on plane with everything on the right. It looks good.

It's sad but true

If those are truly 2 impact positions:

Left = hacker
Right = tour player :D

Yeah they are unfortunately an example of the worst and the best (which is why i'm off 24 but can sometimes shoot in the 80's) !

I have a habit of 'standing up' at impact which i'm trying to get rid of by working on my pivot (thanks to a vid answer Brian did for me on the subject)

I've had a hard time getting into that impact position without roundhousing (then having to stop the pivot just to make contact) :(

If you have trouble with roundhousing it's because of a lack of axis tilt and probably a clubface issue. A way to "cheat" to get better at this is to bend over from the waist more. The more you bend over the less amount of tilt you will need to hit the ball and the easier it is to get your hands in front without flipping.

So next time you practice, bend over the normal amount and then go quite a bit more until you think "this doesn't feel right." Hit some balls and you might find it a bit easier to do what you're trying to do.

I've heard this term a lot.........roundhousing..............I'm not sure what it means.

Right shoulder 'spinning out' and coming around instead of going down plane.

For me this happens about half way down due to my pivot stalling and causing a right elbow / hip collision. This forces the shoulder 'around'.... you then need to stand up out of your posture pulling the arms in to hit the ball

Yeah i think solving this has been a bit chicken and egg... have sorted the clubface issues and have control of that pretty good now, so onto the pivot

My probs have always been stalling the pivot then having a small flip at the bottom..... never been a slicer as such as the flip squared the face with a 'leakage' draw.

Just need to keep that left side moving in the proper motion - working on 'pump drills' to help ingrain the right feeling... again the key for me is half way down.. if i get past that point it's golden :)

what does "leakage" mean?

I'm sure there is a more technical definition but for me it's losing lag, or simply not being able to maintain the right arm / right wrist bend long enough so everything 'straightens out' prior to impact - you then need to 'flip' the clubhead at the ball just to make contact
