Independent Arm Action

If one were to isolate arm action from the pivot theoretically, how would it look? Would the arms go straight back and then in and up as the the right arm folded on the backswing? Would the downswing go inside the backswing track or is this caused by the hip bump pulling the power assembly and more specifically the right elbow toward the right hip? I am trying to get a mental picture of how the arms should track during the swing. My sense is that they should "feel" like they are going in a straight line back and a straight line through the ball with the pivot supplying almost all of the "around" movement. I am trying to "swing" vs. "hit" and this concept may be wrong.

I use a start up swivel and a shoulder turn (the RFT predisposes me to not turn enough). In looking at my videos from down the line, the right shoulder seems to move around (outside) too much to start the downswing and I am not delivering the stroke enough from the inside. My ball flight is generally very straight but lacking in distance. Being 60 and having two major back surgeries hasn't helped, but I believe some of my swing mechanics are incorrect. Any help is much appreciated...
