inside-out

I have a huge problem of swinging way to inside-out which causes me to leave the face open to combat the hook and now I am hitting MONSTROUS fades. I was wondering what some good drills or swing thoughts would be to help stop swinging inside-out.
thanks

NHA can fix your path but it won't fix your face. You need to fix the clubface as well. NHA for the path and NSA for the face.

NHA, NHA, NHA.

Yes, you are leaving the face open. But if you hooked it badly before because of path issues then you already know how to square the face. So I don't think you'll need NSA (don't get me wrong, everyone should have a copy). But get NHA right now and it will teach you to fix your path. Once you do this, you'll no longer feel the need to hold the face open.

Easier said than done. What if you have been doing this for 3 years or longer? You have to FORCE yourself to close the club. JMO

If you do the backswing correct in NHA (and i have never seen a student who tried on his own do it right) you won't. The backswing is so much steeper and the left arm rotates so much less the face will be fine for a left to right fade.

Jim...that is a strong statement -- I'm not doubting you at all, but I was wondering if you could elaborate on how we can do the NHA backswing properly if all we have is the video and not a Manzella instructor in our area.

Thanks.

I'm not saying all students, i'm saying all of the students who have come to me.

Practicing making the backswing with an actual wall in front of you. You will be very surprised at how "up the wall" really feels when you do it as intended.

Practicing with a wall behind you and your behind on it works really well also, especially if you have too flat a shoulder turn and can't get back to the ball properly. Don't ask me how I know:)

This only really works for people who are very laid off which, if worked for you great, however when doing NHA backswing a lot of people need an actual wall in front of them to see how far up the wall they need to go. Wall behind you you can yank it inside and just lift waay up which isn't the idea of NHA

Yeah I should have said that I won't work on this using a golfclub, it's just to get the feel of the pivot for my pattern, or people with my specific problem. It is good for me because, I'm a big dude that made too flat and too large of a shoulder turn for me. I couldn't get back to the ball correctly and consistently doing this. Brian adjusted me to making a steeper shoulder turn and sliding hips. I wasn't laid off really with the flatter shoulder turn, but couldn't get back to the ball doing it that way. Yes, I think having a wall in front of you helps you see the line you want to take with the armpath and general direction of the swing with NHA. I hope this may help some bigger guys out there with this type of problem. Sorry I wasn't more clear about what I was trying to say Jim.

I am sooooo frustrated with duck hook spin I almost want to go back to my starting to play days of slice cut, I could still groove that once in a while.

Its slight outside takeaway that moves inside and shuts face, then a flatish shoulder turn but I get it on plane at the top, only to come down way inside and its smoother hook all the time. 7 irons with 4 iron trajectory. The only way I can stop the hooking is to fan the face as much as I can on the way back and hope to hold it open on the way down. No matter what swing change I make I cant get rid of it.

I was having the same trouble with the hook after doing the "twistaway" for a couple of months now. I figured out that the more I took the club outside on the takeaway the more I hooked. Started working the club more straight back to inside and then on the transistion do "the carry". Now back to hitting a soft draw. Learned this from Brian 4 mo. ago.

Although this is my first post, I have been following the forum for over a year now. Glad to finally post something.

Jim,

As the club goes up the wall, do the hands still go inside? I was working on "up the wall," but ended up with an obscene amount of pop out.
