Interesting device?

Hi,

Recently, I was talking to an old colleague, he said that he is developing a simple launch monitor that can measures speed and launch angle and the general direction of the ball. He believed he could bring this to market under 300 USD street price. This got me thinking, there is really no product like that except some basic radars but they don't provide launch angle etc. If you want those details, you need to go high end which becomes a substantial investment.

What do you guys think? He is asking me to invest in his company, do you guys think such device has a potential market?

I think for anything to be of real value, the ability to measure face and path would have to be included. It might be something some guys would have to work on specific things, but speed and launch angle are really limited measurements.

There is nothing on the market that I know of with launch angle functions anywhere near that price, as you stated. I'm not sure I'd invest in the company (the golf business is generally pretty risky), but I would be first in line to buy one!

Is the cost of the high end devices based on the array of measurements or the accuracy and precision of those measurements? What's the cost breakdown on a device like Trackman? Precision measurement devices are expensive. $300 street value screams inferior hardware IMO.

There's a market for it that's for sure. But it would have to be accurate and in fact clubface and clubhead measurements would be way more important than what the silly ball does. Yo can see that! ;););)

PS Paypal me 500$ for that advice if you do invest.;););)
