Interlock vs Overlap

I interlock - have since my dad started teaching me the game when I was a kid. However, I wondering if moving to an overlap grip would help my game. It's much easier to get a flat left wrist at the top and for whatever reason it "feels" more powerful? Can't say I've hit that many balls w/ the overlap but are there any former interlocker's out there? Should I even bother w/ the switch?

I interlock. Small hands. (womanish, even) With overlap, my right pinky tends to come off the left forefinger....esp. in the rain.

Jack and Tiger do fine is what first comes to my mind. Even without that though.....for me at this point I just know it works better.

mongoose,
My own experience with both, concluded with the fact that you can have a softer left hand grip with the interlock.. Somehow the left index finger off the grip relaxes a couple of muscles in your hand and forearm.
Just a thought....:)

I switched from an overlap to an interlock last year, i've got medium sized hands but found my pinky finger doesn't sit in place very well with the overlap.

The interlock felt really weird for a couple of rounds and after that became second nature - i also now don't have to worry about what my pinky finger is doing ! :)

Just focus on the important parts of getting a solid grip, i.e. getting the heel pad of the left hand on top of the grip, getting the right forefinger and thumb in the right spot etc., whichever style of grip allows you to get these things dead on right go with. You get them right with either...

I'm actually going the opposite way. I've got pretty big hands, but the interlocking grip feels better on the grip. One of the main reasons I hadn't switched earlier is because big hands are "supposed to use" the overlapping grip. Go with what works bettter. Keep in mind that you have a lot of years using the interlocking grip. If you want to give it an honest try, you'll need to be patient, and persistent.

Interlock..toward to the palm?

I remember a Top 10 PGA Teaching Pro wrote in magazine (but forgot the name) that interlock grip made the right hand grip more toward the palm instead of fingers and not advocated by that writer ...but as per Homer's book, it stated it should more toward the palm so that the shaft and right forearm is more on the same plane…any idea on that?
