Irons not shutting!

Ok I just posted yesterday that I had a great day on the course and I hit my longest drive EVER. Today I'm hitting in my net and by balls were going way right. Technically not a shank since it wasn't off the hosel but my club was way open. Couldn't hit a 7 iron to save my life. Gave up on it, grabbed my 3W and started pounding it. It's crazy because my friend from my last round had the same problem. With our shorter/mid irons we for some reason are leaving the club way open, I'm talking like 35 degrees. Need help we both have a best shot on Friday. Thanks a lot!!

PS I'm swinging with some float loading if that matters. My friend is not but is also a swinger. He has one of the best swings I've ever seen - reminds me of Anika's. Perfect plane.

Curtis, I experienced this when I first started learning TGM. Here are some things for you to think about....

1. Make sure you understand hinge action. Sounds like you are hitting the ball with an angled hinge.
2. Read up on Brian's wedding ring up drill; it cured my problem immediately.
3. Think about power accumulator #3 or if you are not familiar with TGM terms, rotate the left forearm through the hitting area. I think Tom Watson uses this as a swing thought.

I'm sure the more knowledgeable TGM experts will chime in with better advice soon.

How do you know it wasn't a shank (Oops! I mean SHOVE)?

Make sue the ball is not too far BACK in your stance, make sure you head is not too far forward, make sure your stance is not too wide and make sure your don't have too much axis tilt.

Hey Brian, can you explain why it happens for 1 club and not the other. Is it because the shorter clubs have less time to square up?? I think some of the shots are "shoves" but some are on the heel because they have a different feel to them. On the heel but the club is open a lot.

c21heel mentioned the wedding ring up drill. Should this do the trick or do you have anything different?

Thanks!
