Irons ok... But problems now with the Woods

Hi all,

I seem to be stuck in a cycle of a month or so striking solid irons and can't hit a wood to save my life then back the other way.

On the weekend I struck my irons probably better than i ever had, long and with a nice high draw.

With either the 3W or driver in my hand i couldn't hit it to save myself even taking slow motion half swings... just felt like i couldn't get to the ball without getting over active with the pivot. The bad shots were drop kicks, tops and the occasional low draw that at least advanced up the fairway

Tried some basic and aquired motion with the driver after the round but still can't get it back with these longer clubs. I'm not trying to hit them any harder than my wedges...

Check my setup as well in terms of axis tilt, ball position etc and all seems ok...

Help!!!!

Thanks

That feeling of being unable to get to the ball w/o an overactive pivot sounds like you may be playing the ball too far forward with the woods.

Check the sway Bergsey, Jim is right.

A lot of times when I think I'm making a good pivot, but am still hitting it everywhere, I check my pivot and there is some sway and reverse pivot that I didn't "feel" was there. You can get away with it more in the short irons, but it shows up big time with the woods in your hand.

The pivot must be trained correctly.

Down the road again....

How to hit a Driver Right on the nose!

by Brian Manzella

1. Set-up with the ball off your left heel and the ball off the TOE of the club

2. Set-up with your head behind the ball

3. Set-up with your right foot pulled back slightly from the target line

4. Set-up with your right shoulder AWAY form the ball (without closing your shoulders)

5. Set-up with your belt buckle pointed to the right of the clubhead

6. Swing the club back slight to the inside

7. BURY your right shoulder on the backswing

8. From the top make sure you keep your tailbone ahead of your neckbone

9. Swing "under the stick"

10. Hit PAST your head

11. At impact get your left shoulder and left hip as far away the ball as you can

I have a couple of questions on bmans post.
when I set up off my left heel it is 2 inches outside of my left shoulder

and can someone go in depth a little on 4, 7, and 10
thanks

Just do it.

Try it—you might like it.

Thanks all, will look into the potential swaying and setup stuff Brian mentioned.

Weird thing is i'm hitting my 3-irons awesome which i play off the left heel. (taking a small shallow divot from there)

Maybe the extra length shaft in the 3 wood is just enough to tip things over the edge. I'm even trying to take a divot with the 3 wood just to make sure i'm not trying to 'hit up' on it.

Cheers
