Irons vs Woods , different swing?

For the longest time I thought all shots could be done with one swing as Jack Nicklaus said. Is it true? I feel like Irons you really have to hit down on it and driver up.....
maybe it's just me but I'm having a hard time swinging all my clubs the same way..
In all the videos that Brian has, it doesn't really say that Irons should swing different than woods, am I missing something here?

What about hybrids? How do you hit them? like an iron?

any thoughts?

The notion that you make the same swing with all clubs has done more harm than good (to me anyway). Golf is a lot about intent. Hitting the ball off a tee (maybe 2-3" above the ground) with a slightly upward strike (maybe swinging out to right field a bit as well) couldn't be any more different than hitting a soft 9 iron into the green.

Maybe a more accurate statement is that groups of clubs can have many similarities - SW - 7 iron, say. But I driver, 3W, 3i (hybrid) are going to have different procedures in my opinion vs the shorter clubs.

Since being balanced is a pretty important part of the swing,

Johnny Miller, during a tournament broadcast, suggested that one's target line balance should be:

- more toward / over the left shirt pocket (heart) for wedge thru 7i (descending blow shots)
- centered over sternum on sweeping shots -6i thru 3 wood
- more toward right shirt pocket for the driver as we are hitting up a bit

Of course one has to adjust for up-hill / down-hill situations.

In addition to swing adjustments for longer and shorter clubs, I have found that advice to be very helpful.

I"m hitting my short irons pretty straight now, 3-5i hitting a fade which I think it's perfect.
Now I just have to learn how to hit the driver. It keeps hooking.

does this still apply?

"The DRIVER should be hit on the way up. The IRONS, HYBRIDS, and FAIRWAYS WOODS on the WAY DOWN."

there is actually a video on this posted on the trackman site

I could be wrong, but isn't that saying aim the driver right and hit up, and irons left and down?

Eta: oh, didn't see there was a link. Yup that was what the video was about.

So if I hit down on the driver a couple degrees does that mean aim a little left? I also know a player who crushes the hell out of the ball (125 miles an hour club speed) but hits down on the driver 5 degrees. He can still get it out to 300 but he simply does not know how to draw the ball and really fights a right to right shot. He calls himself an "iron player" because they suit his stock swing much more and he can get his baby fade going. What would be his solution aside from learning how to hit up and out on the ball?

To give you an idea of how much distance he is giving up by hitting down 5*; i swing about 110-112 and i can get it out there 290 and 300 on occassion. He has roughly 15mph more than me...he could be hitting it 340ish with a proper upswing and fitted driver. Essentially he has the swing speed of dustin johnson
