Is Flipping a legit pattern?

I'm serious. If someone is committed to the flip, what are the imperatives for flipping.

There ain't a person posting on this forum who hasn't gotten their ass waxed by the old local flipping legend. Ever notice these guys seem so loose and relaxed?

Yes, it's a pattern. However i wouldn't necessarily call it a legit pattern because it does rely on some sort of timing that you are trying to control.

If you practice and play enough, you could play with it. Hell, a lot of LPGA players currently do. Also before the PGA game became so much about power there were flippers on tour.

Flipping is the most common pattern out there 300 to 1. Although it makes me barf, just ask all the Club Champs! There are a lot of "good players" that can score low from the Flower Pots (up tees) flipping their way around with decent chipping and putting. There aren't many Clubs in the country with 10 ball strikers among the membership roster. I've got 450 members (a couple State Champs) and there are only 4 or 5 that come to mind that DON'T flip the club. I do know a few clubs that have 25% ball stikers! Pretty awesome.

Heres a question

If from the top you pulled the butt end of the club at the bal with your left arm, with shoulders remaining turned and then rolled your forearms through impact - is that flipping?

BeCos isnt that what Els says he does in his book?

I don't think Els is a flipper.

I think that flippers try to time the supination of their wrists/forearm and come into impact without any shaft lean. Els does not describe that in his book.

I just watched/read the "Hunter Mahan" thread where someone had provided a video of him. By definition, isn't Hunter Mahan's release and follow thru a flip? His left hand is bent. His follow thru is pretty much a baseball follow thru and I'm seeing that more than the majority of pros are releasing this way.

It doesn't appear to me that it is a flip.

Here's a pic from a Manzella forum thread (which I can't find), but is what I think of as clubhead throwaway or flipping.

No, i will explain later. To be honest, he has one of the straightest plane lines through the ball on tour.
