Is it illegal to hit golf balls into the ocean?

I don't know but I've been hitting golf balls into San Francisco Bay from the 17th tee at Lincoln Park for 40 years without incident. I expect to see the tip of this golf ball, underwater mountain any day now. BTW, if you are near SF go play Lincoln. It's not in very good shape, it's not very long but the views on this course are second to none. Plus, it has so many 300 yard par 4s it makes you feel like your game is ready for the tour.

I went on a Caribbean cruise several years ago and we hit golf balls off the back of the ship while we were at sea. They felt pretty dead...like a 10 year old range ball. Turns out they were made out of some sort of fish food that dissolved in the ocean after they hit the water.

IIRC all the clubs we had were brand new Callaway irons and woods. Not a bad way to kill an hour or two every day. I was honestly pretty bored on the cruise and hitting balls was about the most fun I had.

That whole scene is one of the best ever. "I reached in the hole and pulled out the obstruction..."

Even if you aren't a golf nut, that stuff is just pure gold. TV hasn't been the same since Seinfeld went off the air.
