Anybody catch this on TGC? Some of those guys have some EXCELLENT swings... all of the top 5 or so know how to 'ride that rim'.

Best of the bunch for swing motion - Mathew Goggin. Very nice swing.

Redgoat - I'd love to see some pics if you ever have the chance.

Bredan Jones has a pretty nice swing too (a bit too 'stiff'). Euan Walters as well, very nice move.

Anyone know who teaches Goggin?

EdZ: Funny that you should ask for Goggin's swing. I have asked Brady for it already. I followed him at qualifying at Prince's GC before the Open. Tee to green he was the most impressive player I saw the entire championships and I walked round with Tiger inside the ropes. He has an easy looking swing that just sends the ball huge distances with a great ball flight that seems to hang in the air and keep going but it is all done in a nice quiet easy way. He is a nice bloke also and has a nice wife Felicity. He was sending her up the fairway when driving off to find the ball incase he ended up in the rough. I paced one drive out at 330 yards. He needs to improve around the green though. He ended up getting into the Open by getting through a play off as Woosnam did. Goggin's mum was a top amateur golfer in Australia that won everything going I think she may have coached him. He failed to get his tour card this year. When a guy that good does not get through Tour School it makes you realise just how tough professional golf is.

Yeah, I can only guess that shortgame was the issue - one of the best swings I've seen. Sure would be nice to see it in person! A quick look at stats says his putting sucks..... relatively speaking.

His putting is crap. He had a 7 footer birdie putt to get out of the play off on the hole where Woosnam made a really tough 80" chip in. He lagged the putt. I putt better than him. One of the players blew up on the next hole with a nasty pulled drive into rough that was about 3 foot high and lost his ball and that was how he got in. If he had a short game to match his long game I would lay money on him to beat anyone. His ball striking is awesome . Chad Campbell impressed me also but off the tee he is not in Goggin's class. If you get the chance to see him take it. It is the best swing I have ever seen. I did not film it as a couple of kids had just nicked my camcorder. That is why I hope Brady gets some footage of him.

Stolz and Leany came out of that tour, I think they both have interesting swings. I do give the GC credit for bring us the Australian and Euro tour. Great swings to watch. Goggin played with Pampling in the Nationwide last year too I believe. And don't forget Pete Lonard. Wow, more Aussies then South Africans to watch.

Brendan Jones looks like a hitter to me, through and through.

It is amazing the number of players we have with extremely good swings on the Aus tour. Jack Newton once commented that Australian players spend way too much time getting great swings, but often have poor shortgames. Probably why we have so few major winners.

There was a young player (swedish i think), who is living in Aus... he played at Jacob's creek, fantastic swing, cant remember his name...

Is it Jens Nilsson you are thinking of?

With the likes of Scott, Allenby, Appleby and Lonard playing at home over summer I really enjoyed watching the Australasian tour this year. Especially the MasterCard Masters at Huntingdale when Allenby won a four way playoff to beat Scott, Parry and Moseley! :D

What do you put that down to?

To tell you the truth, Im not sure why. I guess it must have something to do with how the Australian PGA do there training of professionals.

I also walked round with Moseley at Prince's my friend Geoff Loughrey was playing in his group. Moseley is very straight but limited off the tee my friend was killing him in this department but around the green Moseley can really clean up and his course management is great. He got through without having to get in a play off. he is very Langer like the complete opposite to the other Aussies.

Ahh Hue you picked one Aussie with a great short game :)

Jarrod's home course is about 5 minutes drive from me. When he was 15/16 he used to play alot and practise his putting, and that was pretty much all he did according to the pro there, he spent hardly any time on the range. The conditions at that course get very windy in the afternoon, that low driving fade he hits suits those kind of courses well. Nice guy...

Parry is a very similar player, accurate, short, but great putter and chipper.

densikat:You are right he is a very nice guy very down to earth and honest. He said that Geoff needed to work on his short game and then he would get his tour card. I was there when he said it and he meant it. It meant a lot to Geoff .I learned a lot watching him play. What you said about how he practiced makes a lot of sense. I am now shifting my focus to the mental, course management and short game aspects. Once you can hit the ball there or there abouts in regulation how you score depends on the other bits. His game is not pretty to watch but he has a gift for getting the ball in the hole.

EdZ, I'm sure a famous teaching pro named Dale Lynch coaches Goggin, who used to be Aaron Baddely's coach. He is in Melbourne Australia along with another teaching pro named Steve Bann who coaches Allenby and Appelby amongst others.

spygolf - thanks for the info - Dale knows his stuff - Goggin's swing as as good as it gets IMO. Sure wish I had known that back in Sept when I was down under!

you have got to be joking about australian coaches being good. The players are allready good when they get to bann, lynch and edwin.
its a miracle that these guys dont ruin them with their geometry only 'methods' The only good coaches I know in Australia are Paul hart gsed and a young guy steve khatib gsem. They are not famous because they have no smoke and mirrors, but simply a little yellow book. It is ignorant to assume a coach is good just because he has some tour pros that he didnt develop on his own!
