Jim....laser tracing

Got the Butch Harmon laser trainer on ebay ($45).

I think in another post you said to ignore the ball flight laws. I'm not sure if you are basically saying to ignore everything but the red, straight line?

Do I still want the path and plane lasers always pointing at the straight line on back and down? Or should I follow the inside to straight to outside for the down?

How can I learn to hit a draw from using this? Does the instruction in the video work?

I really suck at this. The path laser on the back is ok but the plane laser goes outside the red line on the way back and curves in. Not sure what lines I should be following down.

Ideally, you want the laser to point at the straight line for both the backswing and the downswing. The only time it won't be is when the club is PARALLEL to that line.

To hit a draw you are going to want to have the laser trace a line going like this: /, instead of a drawing a straight line like this: ------

The video is pointless. Let me know if you have more questions.

I also just got this laser guide and it really showed that what you think you are doing and what you are actually are doing are 2 different things. I tend to have a flat backswing and I thought that I was taking the clubhead too far inside at the start of the backswing, when in reality I was taking it outside and then getiing flat once I started hinging my wrists. It would seem that it is the hinging that has been the trouble spot. I'm glad that I listened to your recommendation Jim to get it. I also noticed how more upright ( less flat) the shaft feels to me, when I am on plane, in the initial part of the downswing. I almost feel like I'm coming over the top. I must be one of the millions who are swing too far right in an effort to not come over the top.

AHA....!

I gotcha. "Down the line view."

Couldn't see it. (I was thinking "golfer's perspective")

That works a lot better than mine tho anyway....

(with mine you'd prolly bag yourself from behind)

(somehow...)

Do you try to close the clubface...

on the down swing....or set up more closed face....or stronger grip to get the draw?

Thanks

If you turned your head to the left- yes Jim.

I have no idea what you're talking about lol. If you are the golfer and you're looking at the ball you would want the plane line to rotate slightly to the right / and hit the ball with a slightly closed face (at separation) and you'd hit a nice push draw.

I know I know..........I meant....if you're standing there (at Address)....facing (looking) north.....and the target is west.....

\

The "out to right field-ness" is weirdly exaggerated tho- which is why I said you'd prolly somehow bag yourself from behind.

Yours is a better way to do it anyhow I think.

"Plane-line Drawing In Text 101" eh.....lol......

Do really good golfers....

naturally come close to tracing these lines. I can't believe how bad I suck at it.

it is really helping me rethink my swing mechanics back and down.

I just hope..other than remembering to focus on the down right shoulder....that this doesn't take me somewhere I shouldn't be....as in waay off track.

It seems as though there is a lot more hand action involved than in what I was doing before....and a lot more UP with the hands and a lot sooner than what I was used to doing.

I actually believe I have too much shoulder turn especially before the hands start going up.

It's amazing what plane lasers tell you don't they? ;)

The better BALLSTRIKERS (not necessarily players) may not be on plane in their takeaway or their downswing intially, but they are on plane from hip high to hip high and that is all where it counts.

Now having said that, i think it's easier to just stay on plane for the majority of the time. I'm pretty good at it but i practice all the time, even a couple swings here or there in my apt for fun. Easy to work on during the offseason too.

What most people find these days is their backswing is too in and not up enough because the fad in recent times are flat backswings.
