Greetings ...

UPDATE: VJ Singh won the 2004 Buick Open. John Daly finished 2nd.

I'm was thinking these things RE John Daly and a possible Buick Open win on Sunday --

(1) A 2nd Regular Event win in 2004 would extend exempt status up thru end of 2007.

(2) Win would give John $2.43 million - absolutely certain Top-40 Money Winner (2005 Masters), reasonably certain Top-30 Money Winner (2005 US Open)

(3) High number of World Ranking Points earned with win would move John well up among the Top 50 Rankings Leaders, and with that, a near certain berth in the 2004 American Express Championship

(4) Would not earn nearly enough Ryder Cup Points to merit serious consideration - as it stands now, there's not really much chance of John being on the team.

Greetings ...

John Daly's 2nd-place finish at the 2004 Buick Open has boosted him to 14th on the 2004 PGA Tour Money List.

It's now definite that Big John has locked up his 2005 Masters invitation, which goes to the Top-40 PGA Tour Money Leaders (among others) at season's end. One or two more good high finishes will insure a Top-30 Money Leader finish, which puts a player into the 2005 US Open.

As for the 2004 Ryder Cup, there's still some work left to be done.
