While watching the telecast yesterday a golfer hit it right and Johnny said he left the face open and had a lot of shaft lean. I was shocked, does Johnny know about the d-plane and how a heavy leaning shaft makes the ball go right? Most commentators would of said he blocked it or got stuck.

If someone has a relatively high amount of forward lean with a relatively low downward strike, is that implying there is a "flat spot" to the path?

No it just means that their angle of attack is shallower than one with a steeper angle of attack
