Kinetic Chain - Turned In Left Foot

Would like to see an answer to this. I'm having trouble shifting from the top (I'm spinning out) and am looking forward to see if I get any results from this tonight...
 
I don't know if the numbers were published, but in the late 70s or 80s Gideon Ariel's research showed you would get more clubhead speed if the left foot wasn't flared out

I am no medical genius but if you did this 100% of the time and were a pro or avid golfer you would have knee or hip surgery at some point in your life.
 
This thread got me thinking about another issue. If a right handed golfer couldn't get much involvement of his right leg (hip, knee, and ankle) in the golf swing, because of injury, what adjustments could be made to allow him to keep playing this great game?
 
Jim I must say I do feel it in my left knee when I do this.

I've pretty well always naturally flared out my left foot a lot.

Tough to put weight on it or balance issues or what?

The first lesson I had with Brian, he worked with me on squaring my forward foot (my lead foot (left) was very flared), and i really struggled with this. I can now hit shots well doing this, but I do feel it in my knee and ankle a little (if I roll on to the side of my foot at the follow-through). I decided finally that it was just a limitation I had and moved on. Brian didn't seem worried about the issue much in later lessons.

Maybe I could hit the ball better with my foot turned in more, but I decided keeping my knee and ankle surgery-free was also an important goal.

I can put weight on the right leg and balance ok during the back swing. But I then have "discomfort" (sort of a nerve issue in the back-hip area and down the front of the leg) when I try to push off or apply some power from that leg in the down swing. Not a major pain just enough to reduce the amount of power that I apply to the down swing and impact.

Interesting.

Brian almost without a doubt has taught people with similar problems. (so he would know)

All I can think of is to:

-Make sure you have adequate "counter-fall." (when you make a backswing pivot you should not be able to balance on your right foot at the top of your swing)

-If you have no other option, put a lot of weight on your left foot. Personally, I already do it with my short shots. (mostly not with any club lower than a 7 iron but...) Just make sure your upper-body pivot has enough "lean-to-your-right." You do not want to start reverse-pivoting.
