Lag and Release

I am looking for some help on how to maintain lag and then release the club properly.I am looking for some help on how to maintain lag and then release the club properly. My big problem is releasing the club early with my left wrist broken down. I have compensated with my right arm enough that I hit the ball fairly straight, but with not much power. I have been playing for about 5 years. I can shoot in high 70’s to low 80’s, but it is usually because of my short game.

I can do a pretty good job of bringing the club down and maintaining the lag, but then I end up pushing everything way right. I have been to dozens of instructors, read dozens of books, and been in several forums and none have been able to help me. I am desperate to learn to learn how to do this procedure correctly. Does anyone have any advice? Are there any good threads that might help? Are there any good training aids that actually work? I am new to this forum and fairly new to TGM methods, so I am hoping I have found a group that can help me.

Thanks!

I can relate. I was you a couple of years ago. I had books by the likes of Leadbetter, Haney, Flick to name a few, videos by Rick Smith and Nicklaus and had taken a couple of lessons. The best thing BY FAR that I ever did was to stumble across Brian on the FGI website and then follow him here, to his website. Best money that I have spent to date was buying his videos. It's not even close. But back to your questions, I'm sure that some of the more learned members (Jim, et al.) will give you some good free advice but you really should look into buying some of Brian's videos. I would start with "Confessions of a Former Flipper" first, based on your post. It contains everything that you will need to know regarding lag and release and how to crush the ball. Then I would suggest getting "Never Slice Again" because you will be bound to pick up useful stuff from it too, even if you don't consider yourself a slicer. I believe that you can still buy his "Manzella shorts Vol. 1 -4" too and they also have some great stuff. As I said, I came to this website looking for similar answers and while you will get some great free advice here, the posters are very nice and very knowledgeable, the best stuff is in Brian's videos (p.s. this is why I log on like 4-5 times a day to see if Brian has posted another video answer, they're awesome). Hope I don't sound too much like a salesman here, it's just that that is what I did when I was in your shoes a couple of years ago.

I am willing to spend some money on some helpful videos, but I am just tired of blowing money to get all of the crap I have been getting. The same old stuff. It helps to hear that others have had success with the videos. I will consider purchasing them. In the meantime it would be great to hear from some people that have any ideas on helping me out.

Also, how do I find the video posts of Brian answering questions. I keep seeing people talk about them, but I can't seem to find them.

Thanks!

Check out Brian's Youtube video shorts - search for Brian Manzella. This should give you an idea of the "quality" Brian has to offer before you buy.

I certainly understand your reluctance. There is a lot of poorly presented information out there and even a few charlatans.

I would check out three things on here:

1.Read lesson reviews of Brian's work. Just do a search for the word lesson.

2. Check out the videos on The Brian Manzella show.

3. "Confessions of a Former Flipper" is $9.95 as a download. Not much to pay to check Mr. Manzella out. I think it should be required viewing for everyone who wants to improve their game. It's THAT GOOD!

Okay, I bought one of his videos. I am hopeful.

How do I find the video posts of Brian answering questions. I keep seeing people talk about them, but I can't seem to find them. Are these just the videos on You Tube?

No. There are many of them. I would do a search for all posts by Brian with the word video in them. Then I would repeat the search using the keyword answers.

If anyone else has any other search suggestions, I'd love them too!
