Besides hitting out of divots, what are some effective drills i can apply in order to lag the club like sergio garcia?

Well, I'm no teacher and the pump drill is all I know. I know there is more. The onliest reason I respond is because;

I have done the pump drill, practiced on the range and can hit shots with lag built into the swing. I have even had a couple of rounds o'goff with a lag swing. The problem is, without playing more than once or twice every couple of weeks, I can't trust meself to perform it reliably. I'll practice it and can do it on the range, but come game time, I just think about hittin the ball. I do believe some lag has worked its way into my swing thru practice, but not as much as I'd like.

When I play 2-3 times in a week, I feel comfortable with it.

What I mean to say is, it probably won't be an overnight deal. Be prepared to work on it.

Good luck to ya and happy golfing.

It is going to be hard for you to lag the club as much as Sergio.

But, if you want to...

Finish the full cocking of your wrists as your hands get to shoulder height on your downswing.

You might want to cup your left wrist a little to, to get more of an acute angle.

Sergio also drops the handle straight down as he starts his downswing.

Your timing will need to be impeccable...

veddies,

You might like to look at these Sergio Pic's and do some slow motion swings in front of a mirror, pose a little, and try to achieve these positions.

The BEST way for someone to learn to lag it is to try to swing like the old "hickory shaft" pros like Harry Wardon and Bobby Jones.

LEAVE!!! the clubhead on the ground in the takeaway...use you bidy to DRAG your hands away FIRST!

THEN...

Do The same in the Change of Directions---LEAVE!! the clubhead behind.

It is really a FLOAT LOADING drill, But remember float loading is one of 3 ways to LOAD LAG!

Brian : Do you get more of the float loading effect if you delay the wrist set in the backswing as Garcia has done in Burner's link than if you sweep load? If this is correct could you go into the reasons why? Could you go into the 3 ways to load lag and the ways you prefer to see it done? Thanks.

"The hands have to be held back at the start. I think Nicklaus does it by starting his hands almost straight down, like when you pull a window shade. The radius of circle he makes coming down is very small. He is also loading his club with more energy."
