Lag Killer

Been hitting some balls and tonight discovered I was swaying on my backswing. I had been so focused on my hands that I had forgotten the fundamental of a solid foundation and making sure that I'm turning and not swaying on the backswing. As soon as I made that correction, bingo, solid contact and much easier to maintain lag. I only bring this up because sometimes I think we focus so much on the hands, arms, and shoulders we sometimes forget that if the lower body moves it can wreak havoc on everything else.....My random thought for the day...

Ditto. I'm finding that some concepts such as aimimg point were unattainable until I had fixed my pivot.

Yep Yep! You are correct sir! If you move around (no steady head), you move your low point all over the place. Check out Yoda's stuff on anchors (feet, ankles, & knees). You don't have to turn your shoulders to 90 deg. to nail it.

If you've been moving around, when you have the correct pivot with right forearm pickup, it's going to feel like you are just standing in place, facing the ball, and bending your elbow. It's subtracting moves not adding them.

Check Yoda's swing to see how steady his head is and how his lower body is an "anchor." No wasted motion and he just VIOLATES the ball. Uncanny compression.

Tight turns. Learning to shift the hips laterally instead of crossline, and learning to rotate the right shoulder around the spine instead of lunging the upper body are real b**ch*s.

I need to find Yoda's stuff on anchors. Swinging around the spine is also a great concept. When that spine starts moving around, you got issues.

rundmc... You said, "it's going to feel like you are just standing in place, facing the ball, and bending your elbow"... Is that what your swing actually FEELS LIKE?

That type of motion should be very easy on the body(back). No X Factor there!

It "feels" that way to me. Probably because my habit has been trying to really turn the shoulders and get my chest over my right knee ala Curtis Strange. My backswing was long. I took the 8 iron to parallel and double cocked.

I don't think turn anymore. Just bend the elbow and take the wedge up. I have cut about 3 feet of backswing out. Also, I had a big full finish too. Chopped that down too.

rundmc... Is your distance shorter, the same, or longer? I get a similar FEEL. I think if one had been turning the shoulders by twisting the upper body, and especially involving the left shoulder in the turn... the FEEL will be as if the chest stays put, and the left shoulder does nothing. Sometimes, however, it requires some attention to do nothing.

I would say distance is about the same. But the big thing is not hitting the curve balls as much. I was good for at least 3 snipes off the tee every round. I'd be playing from places where you can make a million. I can't say that I never see the left side anymore, but I pay fewer visits there. That's been huge for me because I don't have to play defensive as much. I think I hit it on the face more too.

I'm glad to hear that you have the same FEEL. When TOP vs. END and rt wrist COCKED vs. rt wrist LEVEL was demonstrated to me, I was like you gotta be kidding. It felt like I was standing in place and just taking it to about belt high. But this stuff works.

What about you?

rundmc... Yes, this procedure seems easier on the body. Also... WHAT moves WHAT is very important. When done correctly, the relationship between the right elbow and the pivot(right hip) stays in alignment, thus helping with lag retention.

The chest and left shoulder must NOT move first to start the motion, but the right arm pickup starts it. Some , I think, pre-turn the right hip, then start the right forearm pickup.
