Laid off

I've been doing a lot of mirror drills, and I've noticed that I'm laid off at the top of the swing, with the club at parallel. What are the potential problems I could run into with this position?

You'll have the tendency to do 2 things:

1) You'll either start coming over the top of it
2) You'll drop the club too far underplane and swing too far to the right

Get a plane laser and learn to trace a straight plane line.

need a different term than "laid off" in my neck of the woods recently it has nothing to do with your golf game.:(

Let's assume your hands are perfectly on plane at the top of your backswing and you get your hands in position to where the club could be parallel to you target line.

Laid off means the club is pointing left of where you're aiming. The key here though is that the hands reach the top of the plane. If they are not high enough the club will still point left.

Number 2 sounds vaguely familiar...

#2 means that you are now "under" whatever plane angle you are using and instead tracing a straight plane line through impact you swing waaay out to "right field" which will (if uncompensated) create some big push you'll or start trying to flip the club past your hands to get the ball to go straight which is usually the case of most poor ballstrikers so called "draws." Nothing more than a leakage slice that you flip to close down the face and hit a draw.
