How much lateral movement should there be going back and through?
Rotate going back, lateral bump,
not slide, and then rotate going forward.
The rotational movements will shift your weight (no effort needed from you) backwards and forwards and this may seem like you are sliding laterally a little.
If your hips are at 9 o'clock, left, and 3 o'clock right at set up, then on the back swing they should get to 11 and 5 o'clock respectively, at least.
On the forward swing you will get your hips to to 6 o'clock (ish)left and 12 o'clock (ish) right depending on your flexibility and commitment to a full swing right through the ball.
