Learning to play....back in the day.

I was thinking....

About old pros....

And this relates to an audio you did a while back now that I think about it (on Hogan)....you said: "....back when pro golfers really knew something about the swing. Now they have teachers."

Ya....

I was thinking......they must've been much more like researchers.....I mean.....for a guy like Hogan (or whoever) the only real benckmark would have been "what works".....plain and simple. (I like it)

....I mean.....there was instruction back in the day I assume.....but I also assume it wasn't like it is now.......with all the mainstream instruction.....players with their own teachers....etc.

It makes me think.......

.....with so much bad instruction out there.....and these new players on tour really have no idea about it (they just do what their teachers tell em whether it'll make em better or not)......I would guess it would slow progress....

One more IDEA:

Idea:

All this mediocre (at best) instruction makes for more good players.....but less great players.

...

What do yall think...?

I think you make a great point. As a matter of fact, it may be possible that the swing coach mentality of the money players has trickled down to the rest of us. How many people go to the range and whack balls, hoping that they'll start to straighten out, as opposed to really focusing on actively improving the ball flight with each shot? Instead of owning their game, people are hoping that an instructor, training aid, book, or some other "latest, greatest thing" will send their handicap plummeting. Having all this stuff available is great, but it's possible that the golfing public has come to rely too heavily on outside influences for game improvement, pros and ams alike. Consequently, we end up with someone (or something) else's swing, so we don't know what to do when something goes wrong on the course, under the gun.

Ya it's all bs....(mostly).....I can't believe some of this stuff...

It makes sense tho....in an industry (a BUISNESS...i.e. $$$) where 99.5% of the customers know nothing (or very little....most of which is also other mainstream garbage) marketing, savy buisness skills, and having connections seem to rein supreme....

CRAPPY (shi..y) deal....for ppl looking for help....

...

BTW Hogan didn't "figure it out" (on his own) till he was in his 30s...

Something to think about...
